San Miguel Corporation’s tollway announced that it is fully prepared for the expected 10% increase in vehicle traffic across its expressways during the Undas holiday period. The company will deploy 24/7 operations and additional response teams to ensure safe and efficient travel for motorists.
Beginning 12:01 a.m. on October 29, SMC Infrastructure will activate full manpower under the Department of Transportation’s Oplan Biyaheng Ayos, a nationwide initiative to manage peak travel during long holidays. Millions of Filipinos are expected to head to their hometowns and provinces to observe Undas.
Quick-response teams—equipped with ambulances, tow trucks, and fire engines—will be strategically positioned along SLEX, Skyway System, STAR, NAIA Expressway, and TPLEX, supported by a 24-hour command center monitoring traffic flow and emergency coordination.
To ensure smoother travel, all roadworks along these expressways will be suspended from noon of October 29 until 10 p.m. of November 4, maximizing lane availability.
Seamless Travel via One RFID Program
SMC Infrastructure is also implementing the newly launched One RFID Interoperability Program, which allows motorists to use a single RFID tag across both SMC and Metro Pacific Tollways. This means SMC’s Autosweep and MPTC’s Easytrip systems can now be read interchangeably, enabling faster and more convenient toll transactions.
However, SMC clarified that the system is not automatic. Motorists must first enroll their Autosweep account to activate interoperability.
Registration is free and voluntary via www.autosweeprfid.com or at Autosweep service centers located at select toll plazas and fuel stations. A confirmation email will be sent upon successful registration, which must be presented for verification.
“We want to make it clear that interoperability has been launched, but activation still requires a simple one-time registration,” SMC Infrastructure said. “Once enrolled, motorists can enjoy seamless travel across all major expressways.”
Coordinated Traffic and Motorist Assistance
SMC Infrastructure said it has aligned its traffic management plan with the MMDA, Toll Regulatory Board, Land Transportation Office, and local government units to address potential bottlenecks at key junctions.
Emergency help desks will also operate round-the-clock at Petron service stations along expressways to provide roadside assistance and travel information.
Motorists are reminded to check their vehicles’ condition, ensure RFID accounts are sufficiently loaded, and observe traffic rules at all times.
