One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Meralco, joined hands with volunteers from Radius Telecoms, Inc., MPower, and partner Rockwell Land Corporation to plant native tree seedlings at the UP Laguna-Quezon Land Grant (UP LQLG) in Siniloan, Laguna. The initiative, conducted under OMF’s One For Trees program, was carried out with the support of forest rangers.
In partnership with Fostering Education & Environment for Development, Inc. (FEED), OMF continues to advance the rehabilitation and conservation of the UP LQLG, which forms part of the southern Sierra Madre mountain range. Since 2022, more than 200,000 trees have already been planted in the area through One For Trees, reinforcing its role as a crucial watershed and biodiversity corridor.
FEED Partnerships Director Anne-Marie Bakker commended the growing community of volunteers. “The good news is that there are more and more of you supporting these efforts, and it’s a growing tribe. I hope you will be inspired to keep doing it,” she said.
Meanwhile, OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao likewise emphasized the program’s broader impact. “We are truly inspired that One For Trees has been living up to its name by bringing together so many organizations to plant and nurture trees. The program is cultivating a collective resolve for environmental stewardship and even supporting the livelihood of communities in our reforestation areas.”
Launched in 2019, One For Trees has planted and is nurturing more than 2.7 million trees nationwide, affirming Meralco’s long-term commitment to sustainability and climate resilience.
