Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has partnered with the Makati local government unit (LGU) to intensify wire-clearing operations in the city, reinforcing efforts to enhance public safety and maintain uninterrupted power service for residents and businesses.
During a recent wire clearing activity along Camia Street, Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay highlighted the critical role of collaboration between the LGU and the private sector in the success of this campaign. She emphasized that all users of Meralco poles—including telecommunications and internet service providers—must secure proper permits before attaching any wires to Meralco facilities.
“Protecting the safety of our communities requires a shared commitment. This partnership with Meralco is a vital step in cleaning up urban clutter and preventing potential hazards,” Mayor Binay said. “For this year alone, over 2,000 kilograms of unauthorized wires have already been removed across Makati.”
Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga affirmed the company’s dedication to proactive safety measures. “We will continue to conduct these wire-clearing operations in close cooperation with local government units to safeguard the integrity of our distribution network and, more importantly, to protect the safety of every Filipino,” Zaldarriaga said.
This joint initiative is part of ongoing efforts to combat urban blight and ensure reliable, safe electricity service for all consumers in Makati City.
