PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) accelerated efforts to bridge the digital divide in the first half of 2025, reaching underserved communities through stronger networks and targeted programs. Over 6,400 Filipinos gained new skills and opportunities through these initiatives.
Among the key milestones, the Group rolled out AI-in-a-Box, which trained more than 1,100 farmers, freelancers, MSMEs, PWDs, and local government staff in using artificial intelligence tools, while the #BeCyberSmart campaign raised cybersecurity awareness among 2,000 students, parents, and small business owners. PLDT and Smart also supported the DOJ-IACAT in promoting online safety for children.
To strengthen resilience, the companies worked with the DICT to improve emergency communications planning and deployed Ligtas Kits to ensure connectivity during disasters. In education, PLDT scaled the CVIF-DLP independent learning program, distributed School-in-a-Bag packages to benefit 1,500 learners, and launched Tuon Ta, a mother-tongue literacy and numeracy app. On the livelihood front, nearly 500 farmers and 1,000 MSMEs were equipped with digital and entrepreneurial skills through DFP and eBiznovation. The Group also advanced its DEI initiatives by training and supporting PWD entrepreneurs.
These programs are powered by PLDT’s extensive network of 1.2 million kilometers of fiber passing 19 million homes, and Smart’s 5G/4G network covering 97% of the population.
“Every improvement in efficiency or coverage is part of the larger work of empowering communities and supporting the Philippines’ growth,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT and Smart Chairman and CEO.
“Digital inclusion is about making a real impact in people’s lives,” added Roby A. Alampay, FVP and Head of Public Engagement and Corporate Communications. “Our goal is to ensure no Filipino is left behind.”
