In celebration of the deep and enduring friendship between Japan and the Philippines, Hotel Okura Manila, in collaboration with Newport World Resorts, officially opened the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month with a heartfelt event titled “Kaien” on July 11, 2025.
Held at Yawaragi, the signature Japanese restaurant of the country’s most luxurious Japanese hotel, the occasion showcased the best of cultural diplomacy and refined hospitality.

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Kazuya Endo, expressed his admiration for the venue, saying, “You can enjoy Japanese elegance and Filipino hospitality right here, without ever needing to take a flight.”
Also present was Mr. Ivannovich Dmitriv Agote, officer-in-charge Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Tourism-National Capital Region, who emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
The afternoon began with a dynamic Taiko drum performance by Manila Groove Talents, setting an energetic tone for the celebration.
Messages of unity and lasting friendship followed from the executives of Hotel Okura Manila and Newport World Resorts, culminating in a ceremonial sake toast.
Guests raised traditional masu wooden cups in a symbolic gesture honoring the enduring bond between the Philippines and Japan.
Among the special guests was Filipino-Japanese media personality Mr. Show Suzuki, accompanied by his mother and manager, Mrs. Yoko Suzuki—representing the cultural bridge shared by many with roots in both countries.

A touching highlight of the event was the performance by the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC), whose moving rendition of “Salamat Sa Musika”—paired with graceful choreography—earned heartfelt applause from all attendees.
Guests were then treated to an exceptional Kisetsu buffet, which blended Japan’s seasonal delicacies with the bold, soulful flavors of Filipino cuisine—offering a culinary experience that mirrored the harmony between the two cultures.
To continue the spirit of Friendship Month, Hotel Okura Manila is offering exclusive cultural experiences and curated culinary offerings until tomorrow, July 18, 2025, inviting both local and international guests to immerse in the grace of Japanese tradition infused with Filipino warmth.
