Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East between Israel and Iran, and the spread of disinformation by extremist elements, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss has firmly assured the public that Filipinos and other foreign nationals residing in Israel remain safe and are being provided the same level of protection, services, and support as Israeli citizens.
Ambassador Fluss clarified that while Israel continues to face missile threats—most recently an attack that struck Beersheba—Filipinos, including the nearly 30,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the country, are well-informed and safeguarded through multiple systems. “OFWs live with their patients or employers and have full access to protected shelters and early-warning systems,” said Ambassador Fluss in a recent media interview. “They receive alerts through mobile apps and sirens in multiple languages, including English, and benefit from the same safety mechanisms as Israelis.”
The Israeli government has also initiated proactive support measures, including regular online briefings (the most recent of which drew 500 OFW participants), increased access to social workers, 24/7 helplines, and open border crossings for those who wish to return home. Notably, returning OFWs are not required to apply for re-entry visas, making it easier for them to resume work when they feel ready.
Furthermore, the ambassador debunked false narratives circulated by Islamic extremist groups alleging that foreign nationals are being neglected. “This is categorically false. Israel remains committed to the safety and welfare of every foreign national within our borders,” Fluss stated. “We treat Filipino workers and all guests with dignity and responsibility. Those wishing to go home are assisted, and those who stay are well protected.”
The ambassador also confirmed that all visiting Filipino delegations have been repatriated safely through coordinated efforts with Jordan and the Philippines, further demonstrating Israel’s commitment to safeguarding its international guests.
As misinformation campaigns continue online, Ambassador Fluss urged the public to rely on official government sources and verified media for accurate information.
