There is no stopping the cooperation of Japan, Philippines ad the United States, and on June 20, 2025, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) conducted their first-ever joint search and rescue exercise (SAREX) in Japan.
The JCG deployed the large helicopter-carrying patrol vessel “Asanagi,” while the PCG dispatched the Japan-provided vessel “Teresa Magbanua,” and the USCG sent the “Stratton.” The exercise affirmed effective procedures for responding to maritime emergencies and demonstrated smooth coordination among the three countries’ coast guards.
Japan will continue to strengthen the cooperation and coordination framework among the three coast guards and deepen efforts to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)” through various exercises and other initiatives.
