Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR), the country’s largest hotel operator, has reported a 40% increase in Muslim stays and a 58% rise in revenue from this segment in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year.
The surge, largely driven by travelers from India, Indonesia, and Malaysia, reflects growing confidence in the group’s commitment to Muslim-friendly hospitality.
To further support this growth, MHR is participating in the Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo (PHTTE) 2025, set for June 18 to 20 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.
The event, themed “Showcasing diverse Halal, Halal-ready and friendly markets of all regions to the international arena,” aims to connect domestic and global players in Halal-certified products, services, and tourism, with a strong focus on the BIMP-EAGA region.

“Participating in events like the Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo allows us to stay abreast with the needs of our Muslim guests while showcasing our genuine commitment to inclusivity,” said Cleofe Albiso, Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts.
We proudly support platforms that open doors for partnerships and deeper understanding of Halal travel. Championing Muslim tourism is a responsibility we have embraced as part of our Sampaguita brand of service and our identity as a Filipino hospitality brand,” she added.
Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai in May 2024, MHR has actively expanded its Halal offerings and enhanced staff training to meet the expectations of Muslim travelers. It remains the first and largest hotel chain recognized by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as a 100% Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Establishment (MFAE) across all 13 of its properties.
These include popular destinations such as Savoy Hotel Boracay, Belmont Hotel Mactan, and Hotel Lucky Chinatown—each offering prayer facilities, halal-certified meals, and culturally inclusive service.
Additionally, kitchens in Kingsford Hotel Manila, Grand Westside Hotel, Savoy Hotel Boracay, Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, Belmont Hotel Mactan, and Hotel Lucky Chinatown have received Halal certification from the Halal International Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines (HICCIP), ensuring compliance with dietary and preparation standards.
As it joins this year’s PHTTE, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts strengthens its role in positioning the Philippines as a premier Muslim-friendly destination in Southeast Asia—backed by innovation, inclusivity, and a distinct brand of Filipino hospitality.
