Top honors for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability reporting were bagged by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) at the recent Global Good Governance (3G) Awards held in Brunei, solidifying its rank among international companies with best practices.

SMC emerged from a long list of nominees for various categories in the 10th edition of the 3G Awards by UK-based Cambridge International Finance Advisory, a financial intelligence firm that recognizes institutions with an exemplary drive toward sustainability, good governance, and transparency.

Following a stringent review and selection process that began in October last year, the international award-giving body conferred on SMC the “3G Leadership Award in CSR 2025” and the “3G Best Sustainability Reporting 2025” prize.

Professor Humayon Dar, chairman of the 3G Awards Selection Committee, sent a congratulatory note to SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang, noting what a “huge achievement and accolade” it is for SMC to be the recipient of the awards.

Now in its 10th year — after previously being staged in Istanbul, Jakarta, London, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, and Manila — the 3G Awards maintains the highest standards in its selection process, with multiple levels of review and research done on each nominee by a group of eminent personalities from government, the academe, and the private sector.

Key factors evaluated in the selection process are: alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), measurable community impact, innovation, and adherence to transparency and accountability.

The 3G Best Sustainability Reporting Award recognizes companies that have gone beyond basic compliance, offering detailed accounts of environmental and social performance, and outlining how these are integrated into business strategy. Meanwhile, the 3G Leadership Award in CSR acknowledges firms that show industry leadership through consistent, high-impact corporate social responsibility efforts.

For SMC, the two awards come at a time when environmental and social governance (ESG) metrics are seen as key factors in shaping investor behavior and public perception of corporate performance.

The 3G recognition places SMC alongside global industry leaders across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. In previous remarks, Dar stressed the rising role of Asia in driving global sustainability and noted that that countries in the region are fast becoming the “marginal value contributors” to the world’s social capital.

The recognition bestowed on SMC is a validation of its position of leadership in the Philippines as one of the country’s largest and most diversified conglomerates.

“To be counted among a distinguished line-up of globally recognized and successful companies is an honor. We thank Cambridge IFA behind the Global Good Governance Awards. As a company, we have also worked to grow not just in scale, but also in purpose — to be a force for good and help in nation-building,” said Ang.

Over the past years, SMC has made sustainability and social impact a cornerstone of its long-term strategy, with initiatives that span environmental stewardship, disaster and pandemic response, infrastructure development, food security, and livelihood programs.
