A new wave of opportunity opens for 218 Filipino health professionals as they complete the six-month Preparatory Japanese Language Training (PJLT) under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA), marking a significant milestone in their journey to work in Japan.
Held on May 22, 2025, the completion ceremony for the 17th batch of JPEPA candidates was attended by Japanese Ambassador Kazuya Endo, who underscored the importance of language in bridging cultures and achieving professional success.
The ceremony was also joined by Assistant Secretary Levinson C. Alcantara of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), who offered words of encouragement and support to the candidates.
Messages were also delivered by Mr. Ben Suzuki of the Japan Foundation Manila (JFM), Mr. Josef Carlo Orillo of the Nihongo Center Foundation, Inc. (NCF), Mr. Yoshikazu Kataoka of the Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS), and candidate representatives Ms. Reinarose N. Guina and Ms. Wenna Mae B. Vallejo.
The Japan Foundation-Manila and Nihongo Center Foundation jointly facilitated the PJLT, which saw the successful completion by 19 nurses and 199 care workers. Upon arriving in Japan, the candidates will undergo an additional six months of intensive language training before starting work in hospitals and caregiving facilities across the country.
The JPEPA program continues to provide a meaningful pathway for Filipino professionals to gain global experience while addressing Japan’s healthcare workforce needs.
