In the wake of the administration’s mixed performance in the 2025 midterm senatorial elections, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has asked for the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet secretaries to allow for a government realignment more responsive to public expectations.

“It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations,” Marcos said in a statement. “This is not business as usual. The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.”

The President’s “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas” senatorial slate fell short of a full sweep, a signal of waning public confidence in key administration strategies and figures.

The call for resignations is widely interpreted as an attempt to reset and refocus the administration amid growing scrutiny and calls for greater accountability.

“This is not about personalities—it’s about performance, alignment, and urgency,” the President said. “Those who have delivered and continue to deliver will be recognized. But we cannot afford to be complacent. The time for comfort zones is over.”

By requesting resignations, Marcos seeks the flexibility to assess who among his Cabinet still aligns with the recalibrated direction of his administration. He underscored the shift from early governance to a results-first, performance-driven approach.

While recognizing the contributions of those who have served with “dedication and professionalism,” Marcos pointed to the evolving needs of the country as justification for a bolder, faster, and more focused team.

Government operations will continue without disruption, the President assured, emphasizing that “stability, continuity, and meritocracy” will guide the next iteration of his leadership team.
