The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) have formalized a strategic alliance to bolster micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and promote tourism-linked industries nationwide. On April 07, DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque and DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen inter-agency coordination and drive inclusive economic growth across the Philippines.
“By working together, we are enhancing the synergy between tourism promotion and enterprise development. This convergence aims to foster inclusive growth, empower local industries, and unlock opportunities that reach far beyond our urban centers and into the heart of our communities,” Roque said.
Under the signed agreement, the DTI will facilitate access to financing for eligible tourism projects through the Small Business Corporation. It will also join in DOT led events to drive investment opportunities and champion Philippine-made products and services.
Furthermore, the DTI will leverage its One Town, One Product (OTOP) stores to support tourism efforts. This includes integrating OTOP with the DOT’s Philippine Experience Program, Cultural Tourism offerings, and Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs).
In support of product development and branding, both agencies will collaborate to strengthen creative industries as catalysts for tourism growth.
On the other hand, the DOT will identify strategic tourism destinations and target markets for joint initiatives. It will also spearhead marketing campaigns and co-develop tourism packages that showcase Filipino creativity and heritage.
To amplify impact, the two agencies will conduct joint promotional activities in key domestic and international markets, positioning tourism as a cornerstone of cultural pride and investment potential. Additionally, the DOT will take part in DTI-led trade missions to promote tourism-related investments and services.
The DOT will also allocate dedicated spaces for local products within TRAs and extend its capacity-building programs, such as the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence and other related initiatives, to DTI stakeholders.
This partnership underscores the commitment of both DTI and DOT to advancing grassroots economic development by creating avenues for communities to benefit from tourism-driven enterprise. This collaboration is expected to generate more opportunities for MSMEs to expand, access wider markets, and actively participate in initiatives contributing to the country’s broader goals of shared prosperity.
Trade Secretary affirmed that this formalized alliance aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda, highlighting the promotion of the Philippines’ diverse culture, rich heritage, and creative excellence on both local and global platforms.
Through a whole-of-government approach, both agencies are propelling the country towards inclusive growth, economic transformation, and long-term national development.
