“Today, we honor the heart and soul of the Philippine economy—our micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and our Partner Financial Institutions (PFIs) who have played a pivotal role in driving inclusive and sustainable growth across the country,” Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque pointed out during the 2025 MSME Asenso Awards on March 21.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Secretary Roque recognized 25 distinguished MSMEs and PFIs for their outstanding resilience and innovation. She emphasized that these honorees are the risk-takers, job creators, and changemakers who uplift our local economies.
Among the awardees was a former dishwasher who, starting with just a kilogram of pork, began selling dumplings to her neighbors. Her determination propelled her business into a successful food cart franchise, now equipped with a fully operational commissary and a warehouse.
Meanwhile, demonstrating remarkable courage, a group of individuals with physical challenges transformed adversity into opportunity by establishing an association that provides employment and livelihood for its members.
Likewise, in the face of unprecedented challenges, a medical facility that struggled during the pandemic has emerged as a leading healthcare proider in its province.
Furthermore, a talented young designer-entrepreneur from Maguindanao is making significant strides in the fashion industry by seamlessly blending the artistry and strength of her cultural heritage into a successful business.
“These are not just business success stories—they are stories of perseverance, creativity, and purpose. They embody the very essence of the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ vision, where every Filipino has the opportunity to rise, thrive, and contribute to our nation’s shared prosperity,” Secretary Roque highlighted.
Beyond celebrating individual entrepreneurs, the trade chief also acknowledged the crucial role of PFIs. These institutions have been vital partners in fostering local growth, through their utilization of Small Business Corporation (SB Corp)-awarded credit lines, sound financial conditions, adherence to loan program covenants, and strong repayment records.
Secretary Roque reiterated the agency’s push to foster a more inclusive and competitive business environment. Through initiatives like the DTI-SB Corp’s credit facilities, Negosyo Centers, and comprehensive capacity-building programs, the DTI empowers MSMEs to reach their full potential.
The 2025 MSME Asenso Awards, organized by the DTI-SB Corp, celebrated 30 years of recognizing distinguished partners and the significant MSME borrowers and PFIs to the agency’s developmental and financial goals.
