Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and the Philippine National Police–Eastern Police District (PNP-EPD) have reaffirmed their mutual commitment to fighting the rampant theft of electricity distribution facilities such as electricity meters.
In a recent meeting with the Metro East Coordinating Council (MECC), whose scope includes Pasig City where Meralco headquarters is located, Meralco Vice President and Head for Revenue Assurance and Metering Services Marvin G. Gonsalves and Meralco Head of Corporate Security Management Michael M. Saguin highlighted the threats posed by theft of electricity distribution materials to the integrity of the electricity service delivered by the distribution utility.
During the meeting, PNP-EPD Director Police Col. Villamor Tuliao committed to include theft of electricity distribution facilities in their threat and peace and order assessments. Just recently, Meralco and the PNP through its Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), signed a memorandum of understanding to proactively combat theft of electricity meters and other distribution facilities.
