Aiming to shape the green workforce of tomorrow, Danish start-up Aprendio and the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their collaboration on green skills training, the Embassy of Denmark said in a news release.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen witnessed the momentous occasion during his recent visit to the Philippines, emphasizing the global importance of this partnership in advancing sustainable development.
The newly signed MoU marks a new chapter for the Green Skills Academy which will now extend its offerings to over 100,000 AMOSUP members, primarily deck officers and engineers.
Participants can access the courses free of charge, with the option to earn digitally verifiable certificates for a nominal fee. This transformative initiative empowers AMOSUP members to play pivotal roles in the global green transition, both at home and abroad.

By equipping our seafarers and engineers with expertise in green fuels, offshore wind, and cutting-edge technologies, we’re not just re-enforcing a just maritime transition but also, we’re shaping a more sustainable future for the maritime industry and beyond,” said Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. Santos, Executive Vice President of AMOSUP.
The expanded program is set to provide AMOSUP members with the critical skills required to work on green fuel-powered merchant vessels and participate in industries such as offshore wind energy.
With its strong base of marine and electrical engineers as the world’s largest seafarers’ union,
AMOSUP stands poised to alleviate global skills shortages in the green transition while unlocking career opportunities with international employers, including Danish companies at the forefront of green innovation.

Since early 2024, the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) has been at the forefront of the green transition. Owned by AMOSUP, the premier maritime academy enrolled 1,000 students in green skills courses offered by Aprendio through the Green Skills Academy initiative.
Partnering with Denmark’s SIMAC Training (Svendborg International Maritime Academy), this program immerses students in essential knowledge on offshore wind energy, green fuels, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and Power-to-X (PtX) technologies. Taught predominantly by Danish experts, these courses are equipping future seafarers with the expertise needed to thrive in a world increasingly driven by green innovation.
Power-to-X (also known as P2X or PtX) describes the conversion of renewable electricity from wind, water or solar as primary energy into an energy carrier (“X”). P2X allows storage of excess energy for later use while also absorbing energy fluctuations.
