The Israel Economic Mission to the Philippines, in partnership with the Embassy of Israel in Manila, recently uncorked a memorable evening of indulgence with L’chaim: Discover Israeli Wine.

This special event celebrated the rich heritage and innovation of Israel’s wine industry while fostering camaraderie between Israel and the Philippines.

The reception embodied Ambassador Ilan Fluss’s vision of building bridges through innovation and collaboration. Fluss said the event was more than just a wine-tasting affair.

“Both nations share resilience, gratitude, and hope [for] the future,” Fluss said, underscoring the growing friendship between the two countries.

Guests were treated to a remarkable selection of wines from esteemed Israeli wineries, including Amphorae, Barkan, Bin Nun, Binyamina, Carmel, Flam, Galil Mountain, Golan Heights, Gva’ot, Lotem, Odem Mountain, Recanati, Teperberg 1870, Tura, and Zion.

International wine judge and writer Haim Gan provided an enlightening glimpse into the Israeli wine scene. “When you drink Israeli wine, you can feel the Israelite DNA qualities,” Gan remarked, referencing the flavors and aromas that reflect the region’s unique terroir and history.

Eddy Gandler, co-founder of Bin Nun Winery, captivated attendees with stories of passion, location, and heritage that form the foundation of his boutique winery. “Our wines are crafted with utmost precision, from locally sourced grapes, reflecting over 3,000 years of winemaking tradition,” Gandler shared. His vision extends beyond crafting quality wine to offering immersive wine tourism experiences that blend history and flavor.

The event also highlighted other Israeli winemakers such as Nir Kuttner from Teperberg 1870, and Shani Zetuni from Amphorae Winery, and Lotem Organic Winery. Each brought their unique on how Israeli wine continues to thrive on the world stage.

A gathering of connoisseurs

The reception drew an eclectic mix of wine merchants, connoisseurs, and food enthusiasts. Notable attendees included Ronnie and Ralph Joseph of Philippine Wine Merchants, Jorge Joseph of Your Wine Experience, Jun Que of the Wine & Food Club of the Philippines, and Chef Gabriel Prats of Disciples of Escoffier Philippines.

This convergence of culinary and wine experts underscored the shared appreciation for fine wine and the potential for Philippine-Israeli collaborations.

Beyond the clinking glasses and swirling aromas, L’chaim: Discover Israeli Wine was a toast to life, friendship, and the blending of cultures. Guests left not just with memories of exquisite wines but also with a deeper appreciation of the resilience and heritage that Israeli winemaking represents.
