The EU-PH Green Economy Forum: Business at the Heart of the Green Transition in the Philippines will be held at the Ascott Hotel, Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila from November 26 to 27, 2024. This event will bring together leaders from the government sector, representatives from the EU and its member states, and key figures from the private sector to discuss pivotal advancements in the Philippines’ transition to a green economy.
With the goal to convene European and Filipino businesses to foster partnerships in circular economy, waste reduction, renewable energy, and overall better sustainable practices, the event promises to provide conducive sessions for such, namely:
● Networking dinner and cocktail reception with opening remarks from the European Union and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
● Full-day sessions featuring targeted matchmaking activities to inspire collaborations on circular economy solutions, innovation in plastic waste reduction, and green jobs creation, and live demonstrations of clean energy initiatives.
● Luntiang Puso (Green at Heart) High-Level Event where the Team Europe countries and government counterparts will discuss their joint contribution to the Philippines’ green transition.
This event is organized under the EU Global Gateway framework. The Global Gateway stands for sustainable and trusted connections that work for people and the planet. It helps to tackle the most pressing global challenges, from fighting climate change, to improving health systems, and boosting competitiveness and security of global supply chains.
It is funded by a €60 million (₱3.79 billion) grant from the European Union, the Green Economy Programme of the Philippines. This 5-year programme will run in collaboration with the national government, local government units (LGUs), and the private sector. One of its objectives is to improve energy efficiency, promote renewable energy use and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Using a whole-of-nation approach, the programme is focused on sustainable and inclusive growth through technology transfers, investments, and jobs creation.
The programme is implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as the overall implementing agency, with partnerships with the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Trade and Industry, and Department of Energy, as well as with the support from technical partners such as UNDP Philippines, GIZ, Expertise France together with Global Green Growth Institute, and the International Finance Corporation.
