ILIGAN CITY—Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC), the Philippines’ sole chlor-alkali producer, has completed a P630 million investment to expand its production capacity by 68 percent at its plant here. This significant upgrade enables MVC to better supply essential raw materials for industries involved in water treatment, paper production, and cleaning supplies.

According to a news release from the Board of Investments (BOI), the expansion focuses on MVC’s Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM) Plant 2, the only one of its kind in the Philippines which plays a critical role in providing chemicals like caustic soda and chlorine. These raw materials are vital for producing consumer goods essential to daily life.

Alongside increasing production, the investment includes improvements to marine tanker capacity and depot facilities, enhancing MVC’s ability to distribute its products nationwide.

BOI Executive Director for Investments Promotion Services, Evariste Cagatan, said MVC is an important cornerstone in the supply chain for many industries.

MVC President and COO Steve Pangilinan said this upgrade is a continuing move toward the company’s future competitiveness.

Additionally, MVC’s new production capabilities incorporate energy-efficient technologies to reduce power and steam consumption, generate steam from waste heat, and utilize hydrogen by-products to cut carbon emissions. These efforts align with MVC’s commitment to sustainability while maintaining its role as a reliable supplier.

MVC Chairman and CEO Yohei Chikamoto said that the company’s challenges continue as they work to meet growing demand, stressing the need for support from both authorities and stakeholders.

With this investment, MVC strengthens its leadership in the market, supplying over 50 percent of the country’s sodium hypochlorite needs and playing a crucial role in supporting key industries vital to the nation’s economic growth.

Sodium hypochlorite is used in cleaning, disinfection, deodorizing, waste-water treatment, and many others.
