European Union Ambassador to the Philippines Massimo Santoro presented his credentials to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in ceremonies held on September 25, 2024 at MalacaƱang Palace.

Ambassador Santoro’s assignment coincides with the 60 years celebration of the European Union and the Philippines’ diplomatic relations.

The new EU Head of Delegation highlights the increasingly deep and broad bilateral relations between the two partners and member states, which serve as the foundation for our political dialogue and cooperation in various areas.

He also noted that he will continue to advance the European Union and Philippines relations further, based on shared values and interests.

“The European Union is eager to work for fruitful negotiations of a bilateral Free Trade Agreement in the context of already prosperous relations in the economic, trade and investment sectors,” said Santoro.

He also noted that cooperation projects will continue including the areas of climate, energy, environment, digitalization, good governance, peace and human rights, among others.

“The EU will continue its commitment to promoting cooperation on various levels and ensures its unwavering support to a rules-based international order, and a stable, prosperous and secure Philippines,” Ambassador Santoro said.
