Every first of August, Switzerland celebrates the profound “Swiss National Day”, commemorating the country as an independent confederation.
The Swiss Confederation now showcases its rich cultural mosaic and transcends its well-known reputation of having irresistible chocolates, oozing cheese, and accurate and reliable watches. Being a landlocked country in west-central Europe, Switzerland also offers a lot of exciting activities and captivating views to tourists across the globe.
Held on August 29 in BGC, Taguig City, a glimpse of Swiss excellence was highlighted in culinary delights and captivating scenic views during the Swiss National Day, an event spearheaded by the Embassy of Switzerland Manila. From having a view of Mt. Alps, a taste of exemplary wine, a bite of Swiss cake (Zuger Kirschtorte), and seeing the ‘cutesy’ #HappyLilly – a cow that likes to travel — the night indeed served as a testament to country’s artistic expertise.
According to His Excellency Dr. Nicolas Brühl, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Philippines, the bond of Swiss-Philippines is reflected in “many diplomatic initiatives.”
Ambassador Brühl emphasized the fostered economic exchanges in the free trade agreement, enhanced bilateral relations with the help of the Switzerland Chamber of the Philippines, and Swiss efforts toward the peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao. He also highlighted Swiss efforts to democratic values and justice through the UN Joint Program on Human Rights.
“Though our nations differ in geography, culture, and history, we are united by a shared vision of peace, prosperity, and progress,” Amb. Brühl said.
The envoy also added that the Swiss-Filipino community, including Filipinos residing in Switzerland, are the ones who serve as a “living bridge between our two countries” to the global community as exemplified in business, culture, and society.
“May the Swiss Confederation continue to thrive, and may the bonds of friendship between the Philippines and Switzerland grow even stronger,” he added.
Happy Swiss National Day!
