In observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines hosted a webinar titled, Cybersecurity Unplugged: Navigating the Digital Security Landscape in partnership with CyberQ Group, KMC Solutions, and Monarch Cyber Solutions. The key objective of the event is to shed light on the cybersecurity issue through raising awareness, harnessing people’s adaptability, and integrating cybersecurity in business.
The keynote speakers were from the private sector and the government namely: CyberQ Group APAC CEO Roberto Tayag, P&A Grant Thornton Head of Knowledge Management Michael C. Gallego, Maya Philippines Associate Director Jan Martin Encina, Zimperium Senior Solutions Engineer Gerald Tan, Vice President Vic Mankotia, and Sinag Abello from the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
The series of topics are concluded by a roundtable discussion to better navigate the cybersecurity culture through establishing industry standards that are business and people-centric to mitigate the threats associated with cybersecurity.
According to Chris Nelson, British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) Executive Director/Trustee, “We have seen a lot of developments in terms of the digital transformation of the Philippines. This makes it vital to increase awareness and implementation of strong cybersecurity policies which can attract foreign investments through ease of doing business in the country.”
Recent developments of CyberQ Group, one of the members of the British Chamber, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Securities and Exchange Commission Philippines to further explore collaborative efforts towards a strong cybersecurity infrastructure through training, capacity building, and partnerships. It can also be recalled during the President’s second SONA, that one of the key agenda lies on the digital transformation to streamline the country’s services and governance.
The British Chamber supports the constant improvement of cybersecurity through its implementation in different sectors including– telecommunications, business, and digital services, among others.
Moreover, the British Chamber notes on the importance of cybersecurity as a key factor towards digital transformation and reinforcing its potential in driving the country towards economic growth, making the Philippines an investment destination.
