On September 22, commencing at 12:05 p.m. local time (1:05 a.m. Japan Time) for approximately 25 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Foreign Minister of Japan, who is visiting New York, the United States, to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America and Hon. Emrique A. Manalo, Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

The three Ministers welcomed the second Japan-U.S.-Philippines Foreign Ministers’ Meeting following the last meeting in July, and discussed the way forward for concrete cooperation as the momentum to enhance trilateral cooperation among Japan, the United States and the Philippines is growing including through informal talks among Prime Minister Kishida, President Marcos and Vice President Harris earlier this month.

Minister Kamikawa stated that it was important to promote multilayered collaboration with allies and like-minded countries for upholding and strengthening the free and open international order based on the rule of law.

Based on the recent severe strategic environment including the situation in the South China Sea, the three Ministers concurred to further strengthen coordination among the three countries and promote the materialization of the trilateral cooperation.
