The Naval Group’s CONTRALTO® anti-torpedo reaction module was successfully installed into the C-Guard decoy launching system of the Philippe Navy’s two Jose Rizal class frigates on August 31. This important milestone is part of the contract signed in December 2021 to provide anti-torpedo defence system based on Naval Group’s CANTO®/CONTRALTO® solutions.
Naval Group opened its office in Manilla in late 2020. Since then, the company has stepped up its efforts to support the Philippine Navy in its defence ambitions. The group’s extensive portfolio opens many opportunities to address the entire range of Philippine naval needs from development of the naval forces to the constitution of a world-class submarine force.
In this spirit, Naval Group was notified of its first contract in the Philippines by the Department of National Defence for the Philippine Navy on 1st December 2021. Under this contract, Naval Group is to provide anti-torpedo defence system based on CANTO®/CONTRALTO® countermeasures solution to equip the two Jose Rizal-class frigates.
The setting to work and testing of CONTRALTO® were performed at Subic-Agila Bay in the Philippines on August 31, 2023 in the presence of representatives from the Philippine Navy, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Ministry of Defense and industrials responsible for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems.
The commissioning of the ASW Module and CONTRALTO® anti-torpedo reaction module completes the armament of the two Jose Rizal-class frigates acquired as part of the modernization of the Philippine fleet.
The successful installation of CONTRALTO® was carried out after an upgrade of the Combat Management System (CMS) supplied by Hanwha Systems co. and of the C-Guard decoy launcher systems supplied by Terma.
The next contractual milestone is planned in 2024 with the delivery of CANTO® anti-torpedo countermeasures and the training of the crews by Naval Group.
