Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the country’s largest electric distribution utility, has once again exemplified excellence on the global stage as it bagged four (4) awards for its stakeholder management and corporate social responsibility initiatives at the recently concluded 2023 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.

Meralco’s 2021 Annual Reports entitled “Bayanihan,” “Malasakit,” and “Kalinga” received a Silver Stevie under the category of Innovations in Publications. The annual reports showcased how the company reinvented its visual vocabulary and detailed how Meralco anchored on its purpose and values to propel the company’s recovery and growth.

For its transformative initiative, “Electrification for Development: Improving the lives of last-mile Filipinos”, Meralco won a Bronze Stevie under the Innovative Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility category. The program highlighted how the electrification program of the company’s social development arm, One Meralco Foundation, improved the lives of people in unserved and underserved communities across the archipelago.

Another Bronze Stevie was awarded to “Safeguarding the Stability of the Power Grid through Power Supply and Energy Management Education”, an initiative that demonstrated Meralco’s outstanding communications strategy. The recognition under the Innovation in Community Relations or Public Service Communications category exhibited Meralco’s proactive information campaign on the power supply situation, empowering its customers to adapt and implement demand side management programs to minimize any inconvenience.

Completing Meralco’s haul in this year’s Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards is another Bronze Stevie under the category of Innovation in Video for its audiovisual material, “Meralco’s Spectrum on solar rooftop installations: The Gift that Keeps on Giving”. The 3-minute video encapsulated the benefits of investing in renewable energy, particularly in solar through the testimony of renowned environmental advocate, Illac Diaz.

The prestigious Stevie Awards, an annual awards program started in 2002, is participated in by top corporations to showcase professional achievements and compete for various awards. It honors the positive contributions of organizations and working professionals and is one of the world’s most coveted recognitions worldwide.

The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, on the other hand, extends to organizations from 29 nations in the region focusing on recognizing innovation in all its forms.

“International recognitions from prestigious awards programs such as the Stevie Awards serve as a testament to Meralco’s customer-centric, goal-oriented, and impactful programs that not only improve customer experience and promote sustainability, but also contribute to nation-building,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
