Taps employees as sustainability champions with #doyourPaurt challenge, partners with National Bicycle Organization to promote cycling

Leading online quick commerce platform foodpanda announced its flagship sustainability program “Let’s do our Pau-rt”, solidifying its commitment towards creating a more sustainable restaurant and delivery ecosystem in the Philippines.

In celebration of Sustainability Day (Oct 26) and its volunteering initiative #HeroMonth, foodpanda kicked off its program with the #doyourPaurt challenge, an employee-led sustainability advocacy. It also signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the National Bicycle Association (NBO) to promote cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation.

Let’s do our Pau-rt exemplifies foodpanda’s commitment to help build an economically inclusive and environmentally-resilient Philippines. Above and beyond leveraging our technology as a sustainability platform, we aim to promote sustainability as a way of life,” said foodpanda Philippines Managing Director Daniel Marogy.

At the MOA signing with NBO, Marogy underpinned the importance of collaboration among all sectors of society. “Change starts with each of us. We can build a community that embraces sustainability by doing our part for our planet and inspiring others to do their part.”

Giving back to nature

The Philippines faces the highest disaster risk worldwide, according to the recently released World Risk Index (WRI) 2022, which measures 193 countries’ risk from extreme natural events and vulnerability to the impact of climate change.

“Spurring community action towards a greener future requires humanizing sustainability. This means making sustainable choices, no matter how small, in our daily lives,” said Marogy.

Through the #doyourPaurt challenge, foodpanda employees aim to  ‘give back to nature’ in line with Hero Month–a volunteering initiative led by foodpanda’s parent company Delivery Hero–that provides opportunities to give back to the community through charitable and sustainability-focused initiatives.

foodpanda employees took to social media and shared how they are turning everyday habits into eco-habits, inspiring their friends and networks to share their own sustainable lifestyle stories. From recycling shopping bags to cycling to work, foodpanda employees showed easy, fun and rewarding ways to go green.

From recycling to cycling

foodpanda also joined forces with the National Bicycle Organization, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a bicycle-friendly Philippines.  Under Let’s do our Pau-rt, NBO and foodpanda Philippines will collaborate to raise awareness and adoption of cycling as a safe and sustainable alternative mode of transportation.

Cycling is considered as the most green way to travel. Research has shown that cycling has a carbon footprint of up to 30 times lower than driving a car – and even less than walking or taking the bus.

The partnership with NBO comes on the heels of “pandaBIZikleta”,  a bicycle donation project launched last year with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the local governments of Manila, Naga, and Quezon.

Over 500 displaced workers benefited from pandaBIZikleta, receiving not just donated bicycles but also the opportunity to make a decent living as part of foodpanda’s growing base of freelance delivery partners that include e-scooter riders, bikers, and walkers.

“Sustainability is all about responsibility, both at the organizational and individual levels.  At foodpanda, we hope to empower and enable more people to work towards a greener future for the Philippines and inspire community action through initiatives that anyone can get involved in,” Marogy said.
