The Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, together with the Israel Ministry of Defense, IMOD-SIBAT, and Israel’s Defense Attaché, hosted the first-ever Anti-Drone Seminar to present Israel’s top-edge technologies and solutions to their counterparts in the Philippines on the phenomenon of the growing threat of drones.

“This Anti-Drone Seminar is the first of its kind to be held in the Philippines by the State of Israel. This is part of the continuous commitment and interest from both sides to deepen defense relations,” Ambassador Ilan Fluss shared in his opening remarks. “The opening of Israel’s Defense Office here two years ago demonstrates that Israel sees the Philippines as one of its closest allies,” Ambassador Fluss added.

The Ambassador also mentioned that during his courtesy meeting on September 1 with Senior Undersecretary Jose C. Faustino Jr., Department of National Defense officer in charge (OIC), they discussed deepening further defense cooperation, including taking part in the next modernization program of the AFP Horizon 3.

Israel’s Defense Attaché Mr. Raz Shabtay shared that Israel got requests from different institutions in the Philippines to share Israel’s defense solutions. “We adjusted according to the needs of the Philippines and decided to bring all of our top-edge defense industries to present and to address the needs of your country. The systems that we presented are extremely helpful in maintaining peace and security and combatting terrorism and threats.”

Mr. Noam Haibi, Deputy Regional Director, East Asia of IMOD-SIBAT, shared that Israel has invested huge efforts in anti-drone technologies and positioned itself as a world leader. “Looking at the growing challenges worldwide and the evolving technologies, anti-drone is rapidly becoming a leading area in futuristic security challenges,” Mr. Haibi explained.

During the seminar, Israel shared not only the technologies but also the organizational aspects, structures, and processes of establishing a national strategy for protection from drones.

Among the Israeli defense industries that presented were MC Tech, Smartshooter, Rayzone, Elbit. Rafael, IAI, and Elbit Elisra. The Anti-Drone Seminar was held on September 12, 2022, in BGC, Taguig. It was also joined by the Department of National Defense, Philippines Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
