In celebration of the Centennial of one of the most important intellectuals of the XX Century, the UP Film Institute, with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Manila and in partnership with the Philippine Italian Association, is opening the space in front of Cine Adarna for outdoor screenings.
Closed since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in March 2020, Cine Adarna will reopen with its first outdoor screening featuring ACCATTONE, the first, groundbreaking, film entirely directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, the famous Italian poet, novelist, and filmmaker.
Accattone (released in USA as “The Scrounger”, and in UK as “The Procurer”) presented at the Venice International Film Festival in 1961 was received by critics and filmmakers as thunder and was able, as few other films before and after, to completely renew the way of authoring films.
This film will be introduced by H.E. Marco Clemente, Ambassador of Italy to the Philippines, who will share some insights on the film and its author.
The screening will also be preceded by a “Poetic Conversation: Pasolini and Me. A Shared Moment in Film and Poetry” through which Professor Nick Deocampo, Filmmaker and Film Historian, will unveil the influence of this great Italian director and poet in shaping the aesthetic of his own works. For this special occasion, Prof. Deocampo will also perform, first time in public, a poem he dedicated to this “man who loved life dearly and made his art a testament of that love”, as a reflection on his killing in 1975. This program will start at 5:00 PM.
Seating capacity is limited in compliance to the strict health protocol in place. The program will be open to the public free of charge and will be on a first come, first served basis.
