EEI Corp. has accelerated its digital transformation ensuring a qualitative leap in empowering its services, which in turn results in faster turnaround time and world-class structures.
An affiliate of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, EEI adopted the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) tools utilized by the global engineering and construction industry prior to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic.
And like all competitive corporations, it has more innovation initiatives in the pipeline.
However, Jesus Teodoro Reyes, EEI assistant vice president for corporate development, stressed that the digital journey is less about the technology itself, and more about enabling and equipping their people.
“We recognize that 90 percent of the transformation effort is about helping our employees, managers and senior leaders navigate around this change and perform better at their jobs. Choosing the right technology is the easy part,” Reyes said.
“This is why most of the corporation’s attention is on the mindset, handset and heart-set changes that employees across all levels will have to undergo. After all, we are mobilizing people, not software and processes,” he added.
One of EEI’s latest innovations is the Reality Capture technology to address the mobility restrictions and challenges brought about by the pandemic.
Reality Capture enables remote job site monitoring and supervision, thus allowing management and project teams unparalleled access to visual ground truth in the form of regularly collected jobsite photos compiled using 360 degree cameras.
It allows remote access to a rich library of 360-degree photo documentation of existing site conditions, which ensures compliance with EEI’s very high quality and safety standards.
Meanwhile, EEI uses a common data environment (CDE) as a primary tool to manage project information and coordination related to specifications, resources requirements and various issues that are encountered during the execution phase of the construction program.
The CDE solution replaces paper-based document controls and a fragmented set of electronic information exchanges, such as email or electronic files shared, using various types of media with one common platform.
Investing in digital innovation is a “win-win” situation for both EEI and its clients.
Glenn Villasenor, senior vice president for business transformation at EEI, said technology enables the construction giant to maximize resources and take on more projects without increasing the same proportion of assets and resources needed to execute them.
“This provides a win-win situation for both EEI and our clients as we all want build more infrastructure, hospitals, residences, offices, and plants for the same amount of capital and funding available in the economy. If we achieve this goal through technology, then it will only motivate more stakeholders to develop and pursue all sorts of new capital programs that will improve the lives of Filipinos,” Villasenor added.
