The Korean Embassy in the Philippines turned over a food truck to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), to be used by the latter in providing hot meals to the most vulnerable people affected by disasters, emergencies, and other crises. The turnover ceremony was led by PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon and Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Inchul Kim yesterday May 26, 2021, at the PRC National Headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
“Bayanihan is at the heart of Korea’s assistance for the Filipino people, in particular for those affected by natural disasters or in predicament. Korea is glad to partner with the Red Cross in implementing its various humanitarian assistance efforts in the Philippines,” said Ambassador Kim.
The food truck is equipped with a complete mini-kitchen setup capable of cooking, preparing, and serving hot meals for at least 800 persons (during an eight-hour operation) quickly and efficiently where it is needed, particularly in various feeding programs and disaster response operations nationwide.
PRC currently has fifteen (15) food trucks stationed in Metro Manila, Nueva Ecija, Iloilo, Davao City, and Bacolod.
“We have always been friends with Koreans historically. We thank the Korean Embassy for its continuous humanitarian assistance and trust provided to PRC and we will make sure that this will go directly to the people. We also welcome Ambassador Inchul Kim in his first official partnership engagement with the PRC. Kamsahamnida (“thank you” in Korean)!” Gordon said.
The Korean Embassy has been a longtime partner of the PRC in providing humanitarian services to alleviate human suffering and uplift human dignity particularly in response to the Marawi Siege in 2017, Mayon Volcano Eruption and Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) in 2018, Mindanao Earthquakes in 2019, Taal Volcano Eruption and Typhoon Rolly (Goni) in 2020.
