DTI R2 Cagayan conducts Advocacy Session on Competitiveness and Good Governance

he Department of Trade and Industry R2 – Cagayan Provincial Office successfully conducted the “Advocacy Session on Competitiveness and Good Governance” via Zoom application. 

The activity aimed to provide a macro perspective on the Province of Cagayan’s competitiveness and good governance landscape by providing a focused discussion on what the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey and the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) intimate about the Province, and by featuring the best practices of the most competitive Local Government Units (LGUs). 

In the Opening Message of PD Ma. Salvacion Castillejos, she expressed her sincerest gratitude to the participants because their mere presence and participation in the said activity reflect their interest to take part in building and enhancing the level of competitiveness and governance in Cagayan. She also expressed her desire for the LGUs to consider all discussion points and recommendations made in the activity.  

Dr. Charles Irvin Tagarino, Investment Promotion Officer of DTI Cagayan, piloted the presentation proper by discussing the “Competitiveness and Compliance to Government Standards of LGUs in the Province of Cagayan”. He stressed on the four (4) pillars of local competitiveness and the LGUs’ compliance to the 20 government policies and standards involved. 

On the other hand, Tuguegarao City Mayor Atty. Jefferson P. Soriano and the City Investment Promotions Chief, Dr. Elena Tuddao discussed the “Best Practices of Tuguegarao City in the CMCI Survey”. It was articulated that passion, commitment, and desire to address the public’s needs are ingredients for a purposeful CMCI journey. 

Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Cagayan Provincial Office, represented by LGOO V Kelinda Vidad, thoroughly discussed the “Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and Efficient LGUs”. She emphasized that SGLG, as a progressive assessment system, influences good governance and local decision making. 

Lastly, Sanchez Mira Mayor Asela Sacramed shared the “Best Practices of Sanchez Mira as a Hall of Famer in the SGLG”. Mayor Sacramed presented the activities that the LGU initiated for the past five (5) years which contributed to its status as an SGLG Hall of Fame. 

The Advocacy Session was participated by 75 participants composed of LGU decision-makers, LGU CMCI and SGLG Focal Persons, and DTI Negosyo Center Junior Business Counsellors in Cagayan.
