Henry Ford Awards Calls for Entries Only Until November 4

Ford Philippines is now accepting entries to the 20th Henry Ford Awards (HFA) until November 4, 2020. The 20th Henry Ford Awards is a program owned and managed by Ford Group Philippines, Inc.

Below are the general mechanics:

1. The Henry Ford Awards (HFA) is open to all journalism professionals residing in the Philippines.
2. This year, HFA entries will be submitted online via Google forms.
3. All entries must be original and published within the period November 1, 2019 to October 31, 2020.
4. Articles should be written in English or Filipino. Entries in any other language should be accompanied by an English translation.
5. Only one (1) entry PER JOURNALIST, PER CATEGORY may qualify. Entries may be nominated by colleagues, editors, publishers, TV producers and/or entered by the journalist. Should two entries by the same journalist be submitted for one category, the journalist must select ONE piece as his official entry for that category.
6. Entries will be submitted online and must be received by the HFA secretariat NO LATER than 5:00pm Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
7. Ford Philippines and/or the Secretariat reserves the right to re-categorize entries as it deems fit. The journalist will be advised by the Secretariat about the change in category for his/her entry.
8. Entries will submit to a two-stage judging process. Only shortlisted entries from the 1st stage will be forwarded to the 2nd stage judges.
9. Winners will be announced at the 20th HFA awards ceremony in early 2021.

AWARD CATEGORIES

REGULAR CATEGORIES:

A. PRINT AND ONLINE:
1. Automotive Print Feature
This category awards a feature story published on a print (broadsheet or magazine) platform that provides a comprehensive vehicle review or an in-depth analysis of trends and topics relevant to the Philippine automotive industry.
2. Automotive Online Feature
This category recognizes the best feature story published on an online platform that provides a comprehensive vehicle review or an in-depth analysis of trends and topics relevant to the Philippine automotive industry.
3. Automotive Video Feature
This category recognizes a vehicle or industry feature presented in a video format to keep audiences engaged.
4. Automotive Print Lifestyle Feature
This category recognizes a feature story written on a print publication as a lifestyle piece, making motoring news or topics easier to understand and relate to, especially for consumers who have zero to little understanding of anything motoring.
5. Automotive Online Lifestyle Feature
This category awards a feature story written on an online platform as a lifestyle piece, making motoring news or topics easier to understand and relate to, especially for consumers who have zero to little understanding of anything motoring.
6. Automotive Column (print or online)
This category awards an automotive column or opinion piece that presents the author’s opinion and views on various automotive topics and trends while maintaining journalism integrity.
7. Automotive Photograph
This category recognizes the best-published photograph of a vehicle.
8. Automotive Green Feature
This category awards a feature story that focuses on green technology, energy conservation, or an automotive manufacturer’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative or advocacy that helps reduce carbon footprint.
9. Automotive Technology Feature
This category recognizes the best feature story that presents the latest technological innovations in the automotive industry.
10. Automotive Road Safety Feature
This category recognizes the best feature that promotes or emphasizes the importance of road safety.

SPECIAL CATEGORIES:

1. Ford Automotive Feature (print or online)
This special category recognizes a Ford feature (a vehicle review, an event launch, or an industry-based feature) that best embodied what the brand stands for and how it constantly innovates to offer its customers an enhanced driving and ownership experience.
2. Ford Automotive Video Feature (TV or online)
This special category recognizes a Ford video feature aired on TV or on an online platform that gave an in-depth review or analysis of a Ford vehicle, vehicle launch or media drive.
3. Best Automotive Online Publication
This special category recognizes the website or online publication that best presents motoring content (news, vehicle reviews and launches, industry news) that is informative and relevant to the digitally-attuned reading public.
4. Best Automotive Section for Broadsheet
This special category recognizes the best automotive section for broadsheet that offers comprehensive reportage of trends and issues affecting the Philippine motoring industry, set against a layout that works best for the content and its audience.
5. NEW – Go Further Changemaker Award (5 winners)
The Go Further Changemaker award is a new category that will recognize five (5) journalists who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help the country in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, using his or her influence to incite action or extending a helping hand to frontliners, patients, and the public at large.
Each journalist can nominate a fellow journalist (or himself) so long as the effort or support extended helped individuals or communities during the pandemic.

20th HENRY FORD AWARDS SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

PRINT & ONLINE CATEGORIES

1. Online entries submitted must be original and intended for online syndication.
Uploaded versions of articles published in print channels will not be honored.
2. Each entry must be submitted with a clear and properly accomplished Entry Form.

3. A copy of the manuscript must be uploaded as a Microsoft Word document and must be submitted with a screen capture of the complete posting saved as a jpeg file.
4. Format: Microsoft Word document with Arial font sized 12 pts, 1.5 spacing, and 1-inch margins printed on an A4 sized bond paper (8.27” x 11.69”).
5. Entries must have ONLY the title (in bold), publishing date and the article. DO NOT indicate the name of author and website.
6. The complete site address must be indicated in the entry form. Entries should still be intact and accessible upon nomination until the end of the judging period. The site must be accessible in a current version of the leading browser and to windows.
7. Entries for the Automotive Photograph category should follow at least 300 pixels per inch (ppi) photo quality. A screenshot or a photo of the tear sheet (whole page where the photo was published) should also be uploaded.
In case a corresponding tear sheet cannot be submitted with the entry, a letter from the participant’s editor or publisher confirming that the photo was indeed published (indicating the date), will be accepted.
8. The secretariat will request for ONLINE submissions for this category given the strict health and safety protocols during the pandemic.

9. All entries will go through a two-phased judging process where content will be judged by experts from the academe, industry and media experts, and Ford executives (for Ford special categories).

BROADCAST & VIDEO MEDIA

1. Each entry must be submitted with a clear and properly accomplished Entry Form.

2. One clear copy of the entry must be submitted and uploaded to this https://ford.to/2EEXCNI. It must be properly labeled with the Program Title, Station, Date Aired and Length of the content.
3. For Television: Submit the Taped-On-Air (TOA) version of the entry. DO NOT include the whole episode. Total running time should NOT exceed 10 minutes and should only be within 100mb in size.

SPECIAL CATEGORIES

1. The Go Further Changemaker Award is a by-nomination category. All journalists are qualified to be nominated with their own good deed or CSR program implemented during the pandemic.
2. All Broadsheet Motoring Sections will automatically vie for the Best Automotive Broadsheet award. Eight (8) section samples will be collected at random within the contest period for each courtesy of the HFA Secretariat.
3. All automotive websites that feature industry news and vehicle reviews in the form of an article or a video at the minimum are automatically qualified to vie for the Best Automotive Online Publication award.
