In just less than one month being appointed as Chief Justice of the Supreme Curt, Lucas Bersamin on Tuesday sealed the deal with the Bases Conversion Development Authority in moving the Supreme Court to Taguig City from Manila.

While a lot of observers expressed surprise on this latest development, others raised their concern on what will happen to the historical Supreme Court Building in Padre Faura building dubbed as “Mount Olympus of the gods of Padre Faura”.

According to the Supreme Court Public Information Office, Chief Justice Bersamin signed the Deed of Absolute Sale with the BCDA for the purchase of 21,463 sq.m. property located at the Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City which was the former Philippine Army Security Escort Group Area.

“We are a step closer to finally realizing our common dream to have place we can call our own,” Bersamin said.

Bersamin handed over to BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio Dizon. the total amount of P1,044,021,642.86 check representing the full payment for the purchase of the new Supreme Court complex.

He also signed a memorandum of agreement with Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar for the construction of the Access Road that would connect to C5 and Megaworld senior vice president Kevin Andrew Tan in connection with the access road from the SC to Campus Avenue in the McKinley area.
