Pacquiao TKOs Matthysse, now the new WBA Welterweight Champion

Manny Pacquiao has once again showed his dominance against the Argentine defending champion Lucas Matthysse with a seventh-round knockout and claimed the W.B.A. Welterweight title . After nine years, Pacquiao still has the power and speed that surprised Matthysse when he was down via TKO (Technical Knock Out) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dubbed as Pambasang Kamao, the Filipinos all over the world rejoice and show their respect and admiration to the boxing senator who has a record high of 60th career win with 39 knockouts.

This was Pacquiao’s first since his July 2017 decision loss to Jeff Horn in Australia. It was also Pacquiao’s first fight since 2001 where renowned trainer Freddie Roach was not in his corner since Pacquiao separated ways with Roach last April 2018. Overall, it was a great performance again from the 39-year-old Pacquiao who improved his record to 60-7-2

Matthysse who said he will bring down Pacquiao with his one punch, but this opportunity did not happen. During the fifth round, Pacquiao floored Matthysse for the second time of the match. For the third time, the southpaw Pacquiao knocked down Matthysse in the seventh round with his patented quick and vicious uppercut that made him the and snatched away the new WBA welterweight champion from Matthysse.

The fight which was witnessed 15,000 fans at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was also witnessed by Philippine President, Rodrigo Duterte.
