OYO Hotels and Homes, the world’s 6th largest chain of hotels, homes, and living spaces celebrated its successful take-off in the Philippines, adding over 50 asset owners to its chain in 4 months. The company celebrated its quick expansion in the Philippines with its first OYO Hotels Meet 2019 held on May 3, 2019. The event recognized outstanding OYO hotels that have helped the company establish its footprint in the country since its launch early this year. OYO also acknowledged hotel owners for their outstanding efforts to provide quality service to customers. Hotels with strong sales performance for the first few months of operation with OYO were also commended.

The meet was graced by the presence of some of the Philippines’ hotel and travel associations including Mr. Bob Zozobrado, Chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, Ms. Leny Fabul, Executive Director of the Philippine Hotel Owners Association Inc. and Mr Johnny Chotrani, Chairman of the Philippine India Business Council.

The event highlighted milestones achieved by the company in the Philippines under the leadership of OYO Country Head Ankit Arya. Mr. Arya discussed OYO Hotels’ business model and shared his plans to bring the entire OYO family forward.

“It gives me great pleasure and pride to recognize some of our hotel owners here in the Philippines who have showcased exceptional quality performance since our launch early this year. With the warm feedback that we received till date, plus the back-to-back successes we had so far in growing OYO Hotels in the country to now more than 50 live properties, we are more eager to bring the team to greater heights in the coming years. With our strengthened business direction and program, unceasing technological innovation and deeper collaboration with all our asset hoteliers, Filipinos are rest assured that OYO Hotels will bring more good fortune to the country’s tourism industry and further empower the small-scale business sector,” said Mr. Ankit Arya, Country Head, OYO Hotels & Homes.

OYO partner hotels experienced a night full of surprises as they witnessed the future of OYO Hotels in the Philippines, at the event that was hosted by Bogart the Explorer together with some of OYO Hotels’ executives.

Among the hotels recognized that evening were Artina Suites Hotel in Makati and Spiral Suites in Quezon City. Athena Peckson, Artina Suites Hotel Manager, shares that in just the first four months of their partnership with OYO, the hotel’s occupancy level increased from 60 percent to 100 percent daily.

Peckson adds, “The compelling marketing strategy that OYO uses helped Artina Suites Hotel boost our presence in the market. Their team works with us closely to guide us with customer bookings and other operational concerns. We are proud and convinced that we are in good hands with OYO so we are definitely looking to have a long fruitful partnership with them.”

Spiral Suites Owner Conrad Manalac shares the same trust in OYO, emphasizing that he finds OYO as a very reliable, consistent and professional partner to work with if your goal is to succeed in the industry. He cited that through his partnership with OYO, his hotel’s occupancy rate increased and the consistent positive client ratings ranging from 8.5-10 poured in.

“OYO’s hands-on guidance through personnel training and by imposing strict compliance to quality standards ensured that the service we deliver is no less than the best. We are grateful to OYO for giving Spiral Suites the opportunity to grow and be known in the market,” Manalac adds.

OYO Hotels and Homes hits 4.3x sales growth YoY globally in 2018
OYO sets sights on market-leading position globally with 458,000 rooms as of last year, adds more rooms than the world’s top three hotel chains combined

OYO Hotels and Homes, South Asia’s largest, one of China’s top five, and the world’s fastest-growing chain of leased and franchised hotels, homes and spaces, announces that it posted a 4.3x sales growth YoY globally last year as it shares details of its financial performance as of December 2018.

With more than 458,000 rooms globally as of December 2018 and a Realized Value run-rate of $1.8 billion, OYO is poised to become the world’s largest hotel chain. The company’s 4.3x sales growth YoY achieved last year was a result of continued increase in global stayed room nights across its properties over the years. OYO saw global stayed room nights (Annualized based on December run-rate) surging from 6 million in 2016 to 13 million in 2017 to 75 million (99m based on December 2018 peak) last year (with the growth of 5.7x on YoY basis).

The revenue growth can also be attributed to strong business drivers, including notable increase in exclusive room supply and in commission incomes. Partnering with OYO significantly improves the quality of stand-alone hotels and the occupancy from 25 percent to 65 percent on an average, thereby increasing yield on underutilized assets for property owners.

“2018 was a very good year for OYO as we marked our presence in a total of eight global markets. We are growing exponentially, and we will continue to invest in technology and build long-term capabilities while getting top talents onboard to sustain this growth. We are optimistic that we will maintain this momentum as we redefine the hospitality experience around the world. OYO will continue to create more value for both our asset owners and their customers,” shares Abhishek Gupta, OYO Hotels & Homes Chief Financial Officer.

OYO Hotels & Homes is now present in more than 500 cities across ten countries – India, China, Malaysia, Japan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Nepal, the UK, the UAE, Indonesia, and just recently, the Philippines. With an initial investment of $50 million, OYO is planning to open more than 20,000 rooms among the 10 key cities in the Philippines, which is expected to generate more than 1,000 direct and indirect employment for Filipinos by 2020.

OYO Hotels & Homes is South Asia’s largest, one of China’s top five, and the world’s fastest-growing chain of hotels, homes, and spaces, with footprint in more than 500 cities across India, China, Malaysia, Nepal, the UK, the UAE, the KSA, Indonesia, Philippines, and more recently Japan. OYO Hotels & Homes is one of a kind and has pioneered the world’s first full-scale technology-led business model in the hospitality and real estate industry. It currently operates over 13,000 franchised or leased hotels and over 6,000 homes as part of its chain. In India, OYO is present in over 180 cities, and hosts guests in over 8700+ properties, in over 170,000 rooms. OYO is backed by leading investors, the SoftBank Group, Sequoia India, Lightspeed India, Hero Enterprise and China Lodging Group.

Seeing the big opportunities in the Philippines, OYO Hotels, South Asia’s largest, and the world fastest growing chain of hotels, homes and spaces proudly announced its formal expansion into Philippines during the media conference held last Wednesday, January 30, at Marquis Events Place, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

After establishing its foothold in Southeast Asia with successful operations in Malaysia and Indonesia, OYO Hotels chose Philippines to further strengthen its presence and influence in the region.

To show their seriousness in their commitment to embark on aggressive expansion, OYO Hotels has earmarked an investment budget of $50 Million.

Starting with over 21 franchised and leased hotels, spread across Metro Manila, Tagaytay and Cebu, OYO Hotels plans to enter more than 10+ cities by 2020. The hospitality chain has also committed an investment of over $50 million over the next few years in the country with the mission of transforming its hospitality landscape in the country. As a part of its continued commitment to the country, OYO Hotels aims to further generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs that will help support the economic trajectory of Philippines.

Launched in India in 2013, the tech-driven, full-scale hospitality chain works with small and independent hotels, while transforming them into quality living spaces, inducing operation efficiency through staff training, technology solutions for housekeeping, F&B and seamless experience for both guests and asset owners. OYO Hotels has always believed that neighborhood hotels possess the untapped potential of being at par with big chains in terms of both service and Revpar, and is uniquely placed to bring this advantage to the asset owners in Philippines. OYO’s presence in the country would also be an enabler of multiple employment opportunities in the field of housekeeping, front office, F&B, general management, civil engineering, data science, hospitality operations and technology.

Commenting on the development, Abhinav Sinha, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of OYO Hotels and Homes, said, ‘’OYO is committed to offering customers a superior yet affordable stay and travel experience while helping improve the yield for independent hoteliers in the country. With its abundant natural resources and many captivating tourist sights and destinations, the Philippines offers local and foreign tourists alike endless adventures.

In 2018, the Philippines welcomed a record-breaking number of tourists and we are positive that a great opportunity lies in front of us to build a strong and sustainable hospitality ecosystem in the country. We believe that by setting foot in the Philippines, we are advancing our vision of strengthening our foothold in Southeast Asia.”

‘’We’ve been at the forefront of leased and franchised hotel revolution in India, China, Malaysia, Nepal, UK, UAE and more recently Indonesia and extremely excited to extend our quality-assured experience to travellers visiting Philippines. Our priority here is to ensure that we bring OYO Hotels’ top-notch service starting at 750 Pesos to the country, with the goal to become the most loved hotel chain. With the current 21 hotels, over 500 rooms we aim to grow to 10+ cities by 2020 while becoming a household name for both local and international travellers visiting the country. Our growth in the country will be fueled by a strong local leadership and a team of young hospitality enthusiasts. We look forward to a fruitful journey in the months to come.’’

OYO continues global expansion, builds Philippines footprint

With presence in more than 500 cities across India, China, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and now the Philippines, OYO remains on track in its mission to drive sustained yield and increased occupancy for small-scale hoteliers while providing comfortable, high-quality, affordable hospitality experience to travelers, both domestic and international.

OYO kick-starts its Philippine operation with 21+ franchised and leased hotels across Metro Manila, Tagaytay and Cebu with more than 500 exclusive rooms. As part of its expansion plan in the country, OYO is looking to launch 20,000 more rooms in 10+ key cities all over the archipelago, including Palawan, Cebu, Boracay and Davao. This means that by 2020, OYO would have created 1,000 jobs, further strengthening the hospitality and real estate industries in the country.

Talking about the OYO’s impact on the hospitality sector so far, Abhinav added, “At OYO, our mission is to create a perfect space in every place by empowering hotel owners to become better hospitality players while ensuring an end-to-end controlled experience for our guests. With our technology and operational expertise, we are enabling hotel owners with technology and across South Asia demand reach, that will help them drastically improve the customer experience while maintaining efficiencies, high occupancy, and yields. We’ve been responsible for enabling over 100,000 job opportunities in South Asia, and look forward to creating 1000+ direct and indirect jobs in Philippines by 2020.”

Tech-driven hospitality, empowering small-scale hoteliers

A global-first, OYO Hotels brings a unique equilibrium between demand and supply gap of quality living spaces through proprietary technology, efficient operations, staff training, civil transformation, inventory management, revenue management and customer relationship manager. All these facets come together to improve a hotel’s performance by delivering a quality-assured experience. Subsequently, hoteliers can take advantage of the technology to boost occupancy and deliver enhanced customer experience.

Meanwhile, Ankit Arya, Country Head for OYO Hotels in Philippines, said, ‘’OYO’s approach towards hospitality is as unique as it can get. Philippines offers an attractive market with sizeable internet and mobile presence, which complements our approach. We’ve received an overwhelming response to OYO’s offerings in the country since our soft launch and look forward to hosting more guests in the coming years.’’

In the interview of The Philippine Business and News with OYO Hotels’ COO, Mr. Sinha said that with this new venture that OYO has started in the Philippines, job and business opportunities will come as their company is aggressively expanding and very keen to explore partnership with property owners on how they can work together with OYO Hotels in Philippines.
