West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently marked the start of operations of its Anabu Modular Treatment Plant (ModTP), which will serve as a dedicated supply source for its customers in Imus, Cavite.

Leading the soft launch of the facility were Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez and Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado. They were joined by Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Administrator Engr. Leonor C. Cleofas, MWSS-Regulatory Office Chief Regulator Atty. Patrick Ty, and Imus City Mayor Alex L. Advincula. During the launch, Fernandez thanked Imus Mayor Advincula for his leadership and support, which enabled Maynilad to fast-track the operation of this new facility that will help to extend water service availability for his constituents.

The Anabu ModTP is one of four small-scale treatment plants that Maynilad is constructing in Cavite, which will use adjacent rivers as raw water source. It will initially produce 5.5 million liters per day (MLD) of potable water supply this month. Once fully operational by September, this Php2.12-billion facility will be able to treat and produce up to 16 MLD of potable water, enough to supply around 114,000 customers in some parts of Imus City.

By THEPHILBIZNEWS STAFF

With the easing of the enhanced community quarantine restrictions, West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has already deployed over 400 workers at the La Mesa Treatment Plants (LMTP) 1 and 2 in Quezon City to fast-track completion of the facilities’ P7.9-billion upgrade. The returning workers passed anti-body screening tests prior to redeployment, and are now required to follow stricter safety protocols versus COVID-19 infection.

“Completion of this project is essential to ensuring water service reliability for our customers, given the challenges posed by increasingly variable raw water quality from Angat Dam,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado.

The massive P7.9-billion upgrade involves increasing the facilities’ capacity to treat higher raw water turbidity, retrofitting of structures for improved earthquake resiliency, and automating processes. The LMTP 1 and 2 produce 2,400 million liters of water per day and serves around 90% of Maynilad’s 9.7 million customers.

The upgrade, which started in 2017, is being done in phases so that the facilities can operate without interrupting water services for Maynilad customers.

Besides the upgrade of existing treatment facilities, Maynilad’s roadmap toward addressing water security challenges include the construction of new treatment facilities, pumping stations and reservoirs; sustained network enhancements through pipe replacements and leak repairs; and development of smaller alternative raw water sources to accommodate a growing population.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
