Globe is stepping up its efforts to make reliable, high-speed internet accessible to more Filipino households. By focusing on both fiber and 5G technologies, the company is working to deliver affordable, flexible, and high-quality connectivity to communities across the country.

“Connectivity is an enabler of progress,” said Carl Cruz, Globe’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “By expanding our network infrastructure, we are unlocking access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for millions of Filipinos. Globe remains steadfast in working with industry partners and the government to ensure inclusive digital access.”

What makes GFiber Prepaid (GFP) really stand out is how well it fits into the everyday lives of users. A lot of SEC D households prefer services that don’t tie them down with contracts or require big upfront payments. GFP gets that, offering a simple plug-and-play setup, reloadable options, and easy management through the GlobeOne app. Most users top up every 3 to 4 weeks, which keeps them connected without breaking the bank. It’s all about giving them the flexibility they need while keeping costs manageable.

This focus on customer satisfaction is clearly making an impact. GFP’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) is an impressive 67, way above the Telco Industry average of 31 (Transaction NPS). It just goes to show how much users value not only the speed but the whole prepaid fiber experience. Customers appreciate the convenience and control it offers, making it a top pick for more Filipino households.

Globe is also expanding reload options through AMAX and ECPay. This means users have more ways to stay connected, no matter what their routine looks like.

On top of fiber connectivity, Globe is also pushing its 5G WiFi through Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). This tech makes it possible to deliver fast, reliable internet in places where fiber just isn’t practical, especially in underserved communities. This approach not only helps cover areas lacking fiber connectivity but also offloads traffic from Globe’s mobile network, improving overall service quality.

Looking ahead, Globe has laid out a clear plan for 2025: expand access, deepen engagement, and enhance the customer experience. This approach ensures that both new and long-time users enjoy better connectivity designed around their needs.

Globe is also working to close the digital gap in remote areas. The goal is to bring fiber connectivity to 100 more Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), giving people in these communities access to digital services that were previously out of reach. By the end of 2025, Globe plans to increase the number of cell sites in these areas from 600 to 700, helping more Filipinos stay online and connected.

By prioritizing customer-first innovations and focusing on both fiber and 5G technologies, Globe is committed to providing better connectivity for more Filipino families—helping them thrive in today’s digital landscape.

Globe has successfully deployed the Philippines’ first fully functional Private 5G Network designed to address major operational pain points and challenges in different industries.

Installed at a Globe facility in Makati City, this dedicated, on-premise wireless network showcases the potential of 5G to power advanced digital solutions that support critical functions with utmost reliability and efficiency.

Unlike traditional public networks shared by multiple users, Globe’s Private 5G Network offers businesses a dedicated bandwidth, providing a higher level of control and security over their network environment.

It also enables customization to deliver high-performance, low-latency, and secure connectivity exclusive to a specific organization, facility, or operation.

The service will soon be available to Globe’s Business-to-Business (B2B) clients, including those in ports, mining, and manufacturing, unlocking new possibilities across various sectors.

“This milestone demonstrates our drive to provide cutting-edge connectivity solutions that cater to the varying needs of our clients,” said Gerhard Tan, Senior Director and Head of Technology Strategy and Innovations at Globe. “As businesses and organizations continue to adapt to the rapidly changing technological landscape, Globe’s private 5G network solution will be a key enabler in overcoming connectivity challenges, enabling new applications for different use cases and driving the next wave of digital transformation.”

To ensure its private 5G solutions remain at the forefront of innovation, Globe has been working closely with leading technology providers, systems integrators, and global enterprises.

The pilot run, done in partnership with Nokia Shanghai Bell, featured the integration of a Video Surveillance and Analytics Solution that enables people counting, facial recognition, gender detection, and vehicle plate tracking.

These capabilities are particularly beneficial in ensuring operational safety, workforce management, and asset tracking, to help businesses operate more efficiently and securely.

Globe’s Private 5G Network deployment signals the company’s continued commitment to driving digital innovation and providing B2B clients with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

Everyone’s a content creator these days, so people say, and rightly so—after all, limitless creative solutions are at our fingertips, thanks to ever-evolving smartphone technology. This summer, get ready as Globe launches the hottest devices that will allow you to fully express your creativity and show it proudly to the world: the Oppo Reno7 5G and Oppo Reno7 Z 5G.

“In today’s world, just about anything and everything can spark creativity and the need for self-expression. As such, the different social media platforms today are buzzing with all sorts of images, music and videos that celebrate each individual’s character and interests – and the new Oppo Reno7 5G, Oppo Reno7 Z 5G and Globe’s 5G network are the perfect enablers for creation and sharing,” says Coco Domingo, VP of Postpaid and International Business.

“While customers maximize Oppo Reno7 series’ new and enhanced camera, design, and performance, we’re here to make sure you’re always connected with the technology that not only allows for lightning speed uploads and downloads, but enables more future-forward possibilities, Globe 5G.”

Avail yourself of Globe 5G’s GPlan 1799 to get the Oppo Reno7 Z with no cash-out, or GPlan 1999 for the Oppo Reno7, also with zero cash out. Both GPlans come with big data allowances and all-day calls and texts to all networks. These also come with 5G Connectivity powered by Globe, which is 20 times faster than LTE with fiber-fast speeds of up to 100 Mbps and an almost real-time latency for faster response time.

What’s more awesome is that Globe 5G’s GPlan offers come with these freebies: a two-in-one earphone speaker worth P1,899, when you preorder the Oppo Reno7 Z; and an AI Tracker worth P1,699 when you order the Oppo Reno7, until supplies last.

Dropping in stores on March 26, both Oppo Reno7 5G and Oppo Reno7 Z 5G come with a Portrait Camera System, Portrait Mode and Bokeh Flare Portrait Video—features that will allow users to express their multifaceted personalities. Visual visionaries will enjoy these phones’ Portrait Mode, which has 25 levels of adjustable blurring, bokeh, and light spot size, which spotlights your favorite person with perfectly blurred backgrounds; as well as the AI Highlight Video / AI Color Portrait function, which automatically sharpens the natural color of subjects while leaving the surroundings in black and white.

Those who enjoy making their own films will likewise love the Bokeh Flare Portrait Video feature, as it defocuses the background and gives you the perfect bokeh and flare. Have fun, too, with Dual-view Video, and play around while shooting both with the front and back cameras simultaneously!

And speaking of cameras, the Reno7 Pro has three at the back with 50MP and has the flagship Sony IMX766 sensor. For the front camera, there’s the Sony IMX709 Ultra-Sensing sensor—tuned for Oppo—which is 60 percent more sensitive to light and reduces noise by 30 percent when compared to traditional RGB sensors.

In terms of performance, both phones come with HDR technology to ensure that video colors are enhanced and have better contrast. The new feature uses artificial intelligence to differentiate between subjects onscreen and uses different colors and sharpness settings for optimum results. Storage is at 256 GB with 12GB RAM, and both phones come with RAM Expansion technology to allow users to borrow an additional 3GB or 5GB or 7GB from the storage capacity as extended RAM. They also run on Oppo’s new ColorOS 12 skin and have 65W SuperVooc fast charging.

All of these great features are wrapped up in the phones’ beautiful Oppo Glow design—luminescent, luxurious, and exquisitely crafted using Laser Direct Imaging technology.

Oppo Reno7 series can be pre-ordered beginning March 11 and will be launched on March 26.

Domingo adds “With the world as your audience, it’s time to unleash your creativity and self-expression with the Oppo Reno7 series—powered by Globe 5G”.

Keeping true to its promise of bringing the latest technology to other parts of the country, Globe has expanded its 5G coverage to 17 key cities in Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.

The company is accelerating upgrades of its existing technology to improve further the connectivity, mobile experience, and unlock vast potentials for its customers as 5G technology in Bacolod, Boracay, Iloilo, Talisay, Lapu-Lapu, Cordova, Minglanilla and Cebu City in Visayas; and in Davao City and Cagayan De Oro in Mindanao becomes available.

In the first week of November, its 5G network has already reached certain areas in Davao City. Globe customers are encouraged to get their 5G capable mobile devices via the postpaid plans available on the Globe online store (shop.globe.com.ph) or from Globe stores in Davao City so they can experience the jaw-dropping speeds and other potentials of 5G.

5G is the latest wireless internet connectivity that promises faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and more stable internet connections compared to 4G.

“We have a very active 5G development in Metro Manila and we hope to cover 80% of that soon. We are probably in the two-thirds range right now. To complement this, we have also begun to roll out in six key cities in Visayas and Mindanao as part of the overall change we are making to bring 5G to more places and customers in the country,” said Gil Genio, Globe’s Chief Technology and Information Officer.

In Metro Manila, Globe has added more additional sites to widen its total areas with 5G availability, currently on track for its target to cover around 80% of Metro Manila by the end of 2020.

Globe’s aggression on 5G rollout is part of its 3-pronged strategy for network upgrades and expansion, which includes aggressive cell site builds; upgrading its cell sites to 4G/LTE using many different frequencies; and fast-tracking the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.

The company likewise champions the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UNSDG No. 9 which recognizes the importance of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe has vowed to uphold the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.

Globe gives PH Southeast Asia’s first-ever commercial 5G fixed wireless Internet

Text, photo and video by Monsi A. Serrano

There is no stopping the digital revolution. We’ve rapidly breezed past 1G to 2G then 3G to 4G. And just when almost everybody thought it’s too good to be true, Globe proudly launched last night (June 20) at the BGC Amphitheater in Taguig City, its fifth-generation (5G) fixed wireless broadband through its Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G postpaid plans.

The excitement and curiosity building around the 5G was intense at the media launch. Many in the audience, perhaps, wanted to pinch themselves until Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu took to the stage to confirm it.

“The arrival of 5G has caused excitement in the global world of telecommunications. Today, we made a crucial step in fulfilling our goal of connecting more Filipino homes, and our vision of bringing first-world Internet to the Philippines,” Cu said.

And just like that, it’s really here through Globe’s use of the latest technology encapsulated in Huawei’s 5G CPE Pro multimode modem chipset, making the Philippines the first in Southeast Asia and most of the world to support the commercial application of the fastest Internet peak download speeds.

With the advent of Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G, Cu promised to see change in the digital experience Filipino homes. It is with this super fast Internet connection that Globe sees to reinforce the efforts of achieving the company’s goal to connect two million homes by 2020.

“This is our goal to make connectivity fast and make every home have quality time whether the children are studying, watching movie, downloading, playing games and a lot more,” said Cu.

“Prior to Air Fiber 5G, we have aggressively utilized fixed wireless solutions to connect more homes and businesses to the internet over airwaves. This strategy resulted in home broadband subscriber base increasing by 55.1% to 1.7 million in the first three months of 2019 from 1.1 million in the same period in 2016,” he added.

In the crowd, one could get a sense that Filipinos – one of the most social media-active nations in the world – are marching right into the future. After the event, though, there were mixed reactions amid the realization that the country still needs to catch up on developing telecoms infrastructure.

This is no secret to Globe as it was Cu who even admitted that while the company endeavors to connect more Filipinos at home through its Globe at Home Air Fiber 5G, he said: “There are external challenges of rolling out fiber optic cables in the country.”

The plan and the place

For this reason, the Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G postpaid plans which offer fiber-like speeds up to 100Mbps and super-sized data packages of up to 2 terabytes will be initially available only in selected areas in Pasig City, Cavite, and Bulacan.

Globe at Home Air Fiber 5G will be available to eligible customers in July 2019. Plans come at P1899 per month for up to 20Mbps, P2499 for up to 50Mbps and P2899 for up to 100Mbps. All come with up to 2TB data capacity.

“Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G makes use of fixed location wireless radios instead of fiber optic cables which enables the company to go over the circuitous approval process of deploying a fiber optic cable – a task which proves to be arduous and involves securing multiple permits from local government units (LGUs),” Cu said. “The right of process can sometimes take years to obtain, causing drastic delays in fiber optic roll-out completion,” he added.

Cu said that the company has been spending over 21 percent of its annual total revenues to upgrade and expand its telecommunication and IT infrastructure since 2012.

“We have been ramping up our capital spend from P20.3 billion in 2012 to P43.3 billion in 2018, in order to provide our customers better broadband services,” he said.

State-of-the-art technology

In his Facebook post, Art Samaniego Jr., editor of Manila Bulletin’s Tech News, explained the cutting-edge technology employed by Globe. “5G arrives in the country via Globe using Huawei technology. HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro is the world’s first 5G multimode modem chipset. The power of the chipset enables the router to be the first to support commercial application of 4G and 5G dual-modes. It is the first to have the capacity to perform to industry benchmarks of peak 5G download speeds. The dual-mode elements allow for the device to use 4G if the 5G signal is not strong enough,” said Samaniego.

He added: “The HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro supports up to 1.6 Gbps speeds in commercial network for ultra-high definition visual communications and immersive multimedia interactions. It also utilises dedicated video channel and game accelerator channel technology for 8K media or Computer Graphic VR gaming.”

First Filipinos on 5G

That is why Cu was proud of this development as he thanked those who helped the Globe team make 5G a historical reality in the telecommunications industry in the Philippines, only the third country in Asia after Japan and South Korea to deploy 5G for commercial applications.

5G technology enables the use of Internet of Things (IoT) for today’s intelligent homes. Internet connection that is faster, more secure and with lower latency brought by 5G significantly enhanced entertainment and security systems at home, promising a digital experience that is more seamless, reliable and intuitive for the modern Filipino household.

On the sideline, Globe’s Chief Commercial Officer Albert de Larrazabal shared with THEPHILBIZNEWS the great possibilities awaiting users. “When they get to experience the 5G, it is amazing. Everything will change the way they will explore the digital world whether in home, school, office and their own business. That is the reason why we are committing to roll this out in the entire Philippines,” he said.

“The ‘geek economy’ is one of those who would be very happy to experience 5G. From writing, watching movie, downloading, developing apps and softwares and gaming, the 5G is truly a game changer,” Larrazabal said.

“Imagine if the whole country, if interconnected with 5G, then even if our geographical landscape is a challenge already, that 5G will spell the difference and we are the 3rd in Asia to have 5G next to Japan and South Korea. And for Globe Telecoms more than creating the historical move in embarking on 5G which is capital intensive, our dream to make every home and family happy and having quality connection is the best gift we can give to the Filipino people,” he said.

Meanwhile, mobile voice and mobile SMS revenues for the period just ended posted P6.3 billion and P4.2 billion, lower year-on-year by 15% and 22%, respectively.
