A major leadership transition is underway at Globe Telecom, with longtime chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala (JAZA) stepping down and veteran banker-executive Cezar Consing taking the helm.

The move was formalized during the company’s organizational meeting following its recent annual stockholders’ meeting, marking the end of decades of leadership by Zobel de Ayala, one of the most influential figures in Philippine business.

Zobel de Ayala, who remains chairman of AsiaCom Philippines, the joint venture between Ayala Corporation and Singtel, expressed confidence in his successor.

“We welcome with pride the appointment of Bong Consing as Chairman of Globe Telecom,” he said. “Bong has long been a valued leader within the Ayala Group and has demonstrated clarity of judgment, discipline in execution, and a deep commitment to strengthening the institutions he serves.”

“With his leadership, we are confident Globe will continue to build on its strong foundations and play an even greater role in enabling opportunity, progress, and inclusion in the years ahead,” he added.

Consing, currently president and CEO of Ayala Corp., brings decades of experience in global finance and corporate leadership. He previously led Bank of the Philippine Islands as president and CEO from 2013 to 2021, steering the bank through sustained growth and modernization.

His earlier career included senior leadership roles at J.P. Morgan and a stint as partner and co-head for Asia at The Rohatyn Group.

Within the Ayala ecosystem, Consing also serves as chairman of ACEN Corporation and vice chairman of both BPI and Ayala Land Inc., reflecting his central role in shaping the conglomerate’s strategy across sectors.

The leadership transition comes at a time when Globe remains a dominant force in the Philippine telecommunications industry, competing closely with PLDT and facing growing pressure from newer player DITO Telecommunity.

With more than 60 million subscribers and a rapidly expanding 5G and fiber network, Globe has been repositioning itself beyond traditional telecom services into a broader digital platform, anchored by connectivity, enterprise solutions, and fintech services such as GCash.

The company said the change in leadership is expected to sustain that trajectory.

“Under this new leadership, Globe will continue to strengthen its role as a trusted partner in connectivity, innovation, and digital enablement, supporting Filipinos and businesses in an increasingly digital economy,” it said.
