Nüwa Manila and Nüwa Spa at City of Dreams Manila have once again secured Five-Star ratings in the Forbes Travel Guide (FTG) 2026 Star Awards, marking their ninth and seventh wins, respectively, and reaffirming their place among the world’s leading luxury destinations.

The recognition, announced in the guide’s 68th annual listing covering awardees across 95 countries, highlights the sustained excellence of the integrated resort’s hospitality offerings.

Together with Four-Star distinctions for Nobu Hotel Manila and Hyatt Regency Manila, City of Dreams Manila has earned a total of 18 FTG stars since 2018.

“We celebrate and are deeply honored by the Star ratings accorded by Forbes Travel Guide to our three hotels for the ninth year running and to the Nuwa spa since its first award seven years ago,” said City of Dreams Manila Property President Geoff Andres.

The latest honors also contribute to the strong global showing of parent company Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, whose portfolio of hotels, dining venues, and spas across Asia and Europe has now amassed 107 FTG stars — the highest count for any integrated resort operator in Macau and the region.

Lawrence Ho, Chairman & CEO of Melco, said, “We are deeply honored to have Melco recognized once more as the leader in luxury hospitality by Forbes Travel Guide in 2026. Maintaining the most Five-Star awards in Macau and Asia is a testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to excellence.”

“We are thankful to our Colleagues as such achievements would not be possible without their incredible efforts. These results highlight our dedication to operating world-class integrated resorts that offer superlative design and guest experiences. We look forward to welcoming guests to our properties and further enhancing our portfolio of luxury entertainment and hospitality,” Ho added.

Sharing their sustainable journey to inspire everyone in their continuous initiatives by creating long-term strategic solutions for a better future, City of Dreams brandishes its efforts across the 6.2-hectare luxury integrated resort.

Mindful that the success of the company’s sustainability programs is through collaboration — getting more people on board, forging partnerships with other businesses and stakeholders among others.

This is what City of Dreams Manila has been doing since they move forward towards fully integrated sustainability initiatives, by putting sustainability at the heart and center of their business.

Their vision for a more sustainable future echoes louder than ever with various stakeholders becoming cognizant of how sustainable luxury is being achieved by everyone in the team and resonates across the entire organization.

With the growing interest in these initiatives, the resort recently opened its doors to its corporate clients, immersing them on the eco-luxury practices that are seamlessly embedded in the property’s hospitality operations.

In an afternoon of insightful exploration around the property, City of Dreams Manila hosted its corporate clients to a “green tour” to depict how it is becoming to be a carbon neutral and zero waste resort by 2030, in alignment with the ‘Above and Beyond’ sustainability strategy of its parent company Melco Resorts & Entertainment. The tour took the clients to four of the resort’s green facilities — e-bike charging station for colleagues; solar solutions; vermicomposting facility; and herb garden — allowing them to delve into a few of the sustainable practices that enhance the resort’s brand of hospitality service.

The e-bike charging station encourages colleagues on the use of sustainable transportation. Complementing this are the 3,120 PV solar panels that can generate 1,600MWh annually, which also contribute to the property’s decarbonization efforts. The first among integrated resorts to utilize this renewable energy and cleaner energy resource, the solar solution reduces City of Dreams Manila’s reliance on fossil-fuel-based energy sources.

The guests also visited the vermicomposting facility and herb garden at the parking building’s rooftop where they got to experience re-potting of herbs and discover how vermicomposting reduces the property’s food waste. They saw how both facilities result in a circular and regenerative system. In 2022, 145 metric tons of food waste were composted through the onsite vermicomposting facility, providing a nutritious soil amendment for the gardens. Continually nurtured, the vermicompost system has produced over seven metric tons and 3,300 liters of vermicast and vermitea, respectively, over the year. These nutritious fertilizers then support the herb garden, which then provides about 276kg of fresh herbs for the resort’s kitchens.

The tour ended at Haliya, City of Dreams Manila’s modern Filipino restaurant, where a display highlighted the resort’s food and beverage sustainable initiatives, and an innovative Filipino merienda showcased the use of fresh herbs from its rooftop garden.

“Sustainable Luxury resonates with everyone these days, and through this tour, we wish to share with you our commitment to sustainability. We thank you for this opportunity to show you how our resort seamlessly integrates green practices in our guests’ experiences,” says Director of Sales and Marketing Jennylyn Santillan who together with her team hosted the green tour, an initiative to support the ethos of the property enunciated by Property President Geoff Andres, that “sustainability and luxury can be woven together”.

For its sustainable initiatives, Forbes Travel Guide, the globally recognized rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas, named City of Dreams Manila in 2023 as Finalist in the inaugural Responsible Hospitality Award, for its outstanding level of commitment to sustainable practices at the luxury level. City of Dreams’ three FTG-rated hotels are also recipients of the 2022-2024 ASEAN Green Hotel Award for upholding sustainable tourism through environment-friendly principles, resource consumption reduction, and local community involvement.

As schools resume in-person classes, City of Dreams Manila imbibes the spirit of bayanihan, launching a Brigada Eskwela drive at Dr. Arcadio Santos National High School in Parañaque City, in support of the local government’s educational thrust. Led by Property President Geoff Andres, the integrated resort’s executives and team members kicked off the project in August, with a target to refurbish 20 classrooms by the end of September. Working in teams, the volunteers took to cleaning, repainting, and carpentry of classrooms and hallways to ensure a conducive space for learning. The property also donated cabinets to augment the school’s facilities.

Employee Love and CSR volunteerism

Encouraging volunteerism mirrors City of Dreams Manila’s “Employee Love” program, which focuses not only on maintaining a people-centric workplace for the well-being and development of its team members but also in creating opportunities for them to engage in service to society and inspire positive change. “We believe this is the right thing to do. We are in the business not only of delivering exceptional gaming, hospitality and entertainment services to our guests, but to be a good corporate citizen striving to inspire and make a difference in the lives of our colleagues, the communities we work with, and the environment,” Property President Geoff Andres said.

Besides Brigada Eskwela, City of Dreams Manila conducts various corporate social responsibility programs supported by the strong spirit of volunteerism among colleagues. With the relaxation of community quarantines, already 22 outreach programs participated in by 675 volunteer employees from March to August this year were conducted, benefitting disadvantaged communities. Among the beneficiaries to date are: Bahay Aruga (Parañaque), Kanlungan sa ErMa (Malate), Children’s Joy Foundation, and Reception & Study Center for Children (Quezon City), Kids with Purpose (Las Piñas), and Philippine Red Cross through the company-wide quarterly blood donation drive held onsite.

Attractive compensation, health, and economic benefits

The all-encompassing ‘Employee Love’ has also brought benefits offered to some 4,000 employees, including a competitive compensation program considered to be one of the best in the industry that amounts to an average monthly wage that is 106% higher than the monthly nominal wage data of P14,820. City of Dreams is also the first and only integrated resort in the country to offer a second layer of insurance coverage for both team members and their enrolled dependents, amounting to up to 100% of the initial maximum benefit limit in case of critical illness. It also provides bereavement financial assistance of up to P30,000 in the event of the demise of an employee and up to P15, 000 for a family member’s demise in addition to the generous group life and accident insurance coverage offered.

A valued benefit is the 50% discount dining privilege in the restaurants operated by the resort and in the three hotels at City of Dreams Manila, and unlimited buffet meals at the team members’ dining room when on duty.

City of Dreams Manila also offers various free learning programs at the company’s online learning academy, Melco Absorb for the professional and personal growth of its employees. Qualified managers are enrolled for free in eCornell courses as part of the managerial development program of Melco Resorts & Leisure Inc., the owning and management company of City of Dreams.

‘Employee Love’ was also in full display during the pandemic, when City of Dreams Manila went above and beyond to take care of its workforce. Despite headwinds caused by COVID-19, the company extended a generous financial assistance to those who were unable to work during the pandemic lockdowns, through paid leaves from April 2020 to December 2021, starting at 100% of month’s salary for one month, 50% for three months, and 30% thereafter. It advanced 50% of 2020’s 13th month pay in mid-year to help with the families’ school enrollments and granted an unexpected 14th month/loyalty bonus from 2020 to 2022. For their health protection, the company administered Moderna vaccines for free to the employees and their dependents, offered two-way limo service for pregnant colleagues to and from their vaccination sites, while full board and accommodations were provided to those rostered during the lockdowns. The company also purchased oxygen tanks that were lent to team members and their families for home use at the height of the pandemic. Free vitamins were given to employees to strengthen their immune system, and antigen tests were administered at the company’s cost for those rostered. COVID post-vaccination paid leaves of up to two days had helped in the recovery of those who experienced side effects. Also, through an accredited clinic, they and their families continue to enjoy discounted COVID-19 testing fees and are quickly assisted through a COVID hotline for medical concerns.

Ugnayan employee-management council

The establishment of the employee-management council Ugnayan has resulted in the implementation of a harmonious work environment, as it provides a platform for constant communication and mutual collaboration between management and team members. Financial assistance programs under the initiative of Ugnayan are provided to members through the establishment of a credit cooperative, and its own Damayan program, which also provides immediate assistance in times of calamities and other emergencies.

Since its creation in 2019, Ugnayan has been implementing various programs for its members, such as: Damayan death, hospitalization and calamity financial assistance also for their family members in addition to that provided by the company; free flu vaccines, and at a discounted rate for their dependents; free family planning and reproductive health products and programs in partnership with POPCOM; bigger lactation facilities for nursing mothers; and e-bike charging stations. Moving forward, the council aims to do more projects focused on wellness programs and further enhancing employee facilities, among others.

In recognizing the employee-centered culture, Forbes Travel Guide (FTG), considered the only independent global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas, also conferred on the integrated resort with the global 2022 ‘Work Here, Work Happy’ accolade. City of Dreams Manila is recognized for its creative ways to attract and retain staff, and maintain work-life balance programs driven by 10 Core Promises, as it also remains to be the property recognized with the most FTG stars in any resort in the country for its three hotels and spa: Nüwa Manila, Nobu Hotel Manila, Hyatt Regency, and Nüwa Spa.

Caring for the environment

Complementing the property’s CSR initiatives and Employee Love programs are ongoing sustainability undertakings focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency, reduction in water consumption, recycling, digitalization of processes, sustainable sourcing and support to local small and medium enterprises, implementation of projects on colleagues’ welfare, and community development, among others.

These commitments have garnered various recognitions for City of Dreams Manila. Early this year, the property’s three luxury hotels were awarded with the 2022- 2024 ASEAN Green Hotel Award for upholding sustainable tourism through environment-friendly principles and local community involvement.

With the last quarter of the year drawing near, City of Dreams Manila approaches 2023 with the goal of strengthening its varied programs to push forward the ‘Employee Love’. As with the other properties of the resort’s parent company Melco Resorts & Entertainment (Melco), City of Dreams Manila thrives on the ethos that the best service requires the foundation of a strong people culture flourishing on an inclusive, diverse, and healthy work environment, with culture of excellence at its core.

City of Dreams Manila’s crown jewels and three Forbes-rated hotels – Nüwa Manila, Nobu Hotel and Hyatt Regency Manila – bagged the 2022 Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Green Hotel Award at the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum held in Cambodia. An accolade ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards that started in 2008 under the auspices of the region’s national tourism organizations, the ASEAN Green Hotel Award recognizes hotel industry players whose operations are based on the achievement of sustainable tourism through environment-friendly principles, resource consumption reduction and local community involvement.

In acknowledging the ASEAN Tourism Awards bestowed on the hotels and other tourism stakeholders in the Philippines, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat said that the recognition of the Philippine hotels and cities are a reflection of the industry’s commitment to maintain the highest standards of tourism despite the pandemic.

“It is an honor to our commitment to the highest standards of sustainable operations and CSR initiatives that our three hotels are recognized with this prestigious award. Practicing sustainable tourism even during these unprecedented times echoes the ‘Above and Beyond’ vision of our parent company, Melco Resorts & Entertainment (Melco) on our long-term and comprehensive sustainability strategy. We will continue to be a force of good not only within the Philippines and regional tourism industry but also for the planet and the people, as espoused by the ASEAN Tourism Awards,” City of Dreams Manila Property President Geoff Andres said.

The hotels, situated in City of Dreams Manila, undertake various environmental and CSR projects geared towards contributing to a more sustainable future and the upliftment of communities they serve. The luxury integrated resort’s numerous green initiatives are focused on renewable energy and other initiatives on energy efficiency, being the first integrated resort in the country to install solar panels. Water conservation projects including reuse of treated grey water, plastic waste reduction with the replacement of single-use plastic bottles in hotel rooms with reusable and refillable, convenient pump bottles, and sustainable sourcing in its supply chain, are among the many sustainable initiatives that contribute to its goal of being a carbon-neutral and zero waste resort by 2030. A strong spirit of volunteerism fuels the hotel staff along with other colleagues, in various CSR, environmental, health and education programs

Besides the ASEAN Green Hotel Award, other Philippine winners were presented the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award, ASEAN MICE Venue Award (Meeting Room), and ASEAN MICE Venue Award (Exhibition Hall) to recognize and honor outstanding ASEAN tourism businesses and destinations that comply with ASEAN Tourism Standards. Apart from the Philippines, the other ASEAN member countries are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Recipients of the ASEAN Green Hotel Award are recognized for adherence to ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, a certification process that aims to meet a set of 11 criteria that promote sustainable tourism practices, which hotel businesses “should aspire to reach to protect and sustain ASEAN’s natural and cultural resources while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for conservation and poverty alleviation”. The criteria consist of: environmental policy and action for hotel operation; use of green products; collaboration with the community and local organizations; human resource development; solid waste management; energy efficiency; water efficiency; air quality management (indoor & outdoor); noise pollution control; wastewater treatment and management; and toxic and chemical substance disposal management.

Able to instill vaccine confidence, City of Dreams Manila proudly achieves 99% colleague vaccination. In keeping with its “Play it Safe” signature campaign against Covid-19, the resort is committed to the safety of its guests, colleagues, and the community, and has also extended its inoculation drive to colleagues’ families.

The Safety Seal-certified City of Dreams Manila establishes colleague immunity with 99 percent of its staff fully immunized. The announcement comes timely as the luxury integrated resort gears to welcome more guests and reopen more facilities with the easing of Metro Manila to Alert Level 2.

“We are grateful to our colleagues who have taken the step towards protecting themselves, their families and colleagues, our guests and the community in general,” says Property President Geoff Andres. Fully vaccinated staff are those who have completed the required vaccine dosage. The resort, which has ordered enough vaccines to vaccinate its staff, is currently inoculating their staff’s dependents. Their children under 18 years old follow suit.

Various initiatives were granted by the resort to encourage the vaccination uptake, including two-day paid leaves on the day of the vaccination and after, to provide rest should the staff experience any post-vax side effects, and continuously re-enforcing the message that the vaccination is a collective effort and a compassionate step towards stemming the spread of COVID-19. Webinars conducted by medical authorities gave staff a better understanding of the benefits of being vaccinated. The resort also allowed time for vaccine confidence to grow, as those who initially hesitated eventually agreed, upon seeing their colleagues get vaccinated, and also provided shuttle service from the resort to the vaccination sites for its team members, and allowed them to get vaccinated during work hours

Pregnant staff are offered hotel limousine service from their home within a reasonable radius to the vaccination center and back. The resort’s in-house Occupational Health and Safety unit keeps track of the staff’s vaccination status, and helps the staff make appointments through available channels. Colleagues who have been off-site were urged early on to get vaccinated in their respective communities where available.

City of Dreams Manila implements a “Play it Safe” campaign, which mandates all colleagues to follow stringent health and safety guidelines throughout the property, including their work areas and in community spaces such as the employees’ dining area.
