In photo: The newly-opened Caltex service station in San Fernando, Cebu offers a cleaner and reliable fuels for private vehicles and commercial fleets around Metro Cebu, where the largest domestic port in the country is situated

By Alithea De Jesus

As another year starts, Caltex marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) ensures they are ready to serve the demand for clean, efficient and high-quality fuels as they expanded to more provinces.

Just recently they opened new service stations in Pampanga, Pangasinan, Bataan, Batangas, Cebu, and Bukidnon as far of their commitment to support of the reopening of the economy. This brings the total number of newly-opened Caltex stations in 2020 to 30.

With a growing retail structure composed of nearly 650 Caltex retail stations across the archipelago, people can expect that this year there will be more Caltex stations ready to serve their community and a strong indication of the success of the retailer-owned retailer-operated business model.

CPI recently opened a Caltex service station in the municipality of Guagua, Pampanga. Situated along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue,Barangay San Antonio, this 12-pump fueling station is now ready to supply fuel for motorists traveling in the area and to support the transport of forestry and fishery resources, such as rice, corn, and tilapia, which are staples in the province.

Another Caltex service station stands in the highly urbanized Olongapo City. Located along the busy stretch of Rizal Avenue, this service station now serves the fuel needs of residents in Barangay West Bajac-Bajac and its neighboring districts.

The newly-established service station in Barangay Culis, Hermosa, Bataan also serves as a vital pit stop for private and commercial vehicles traversing the Roman Highway, which is a national arterial road that straddles 10 Bataan towns.

A new 18-pump Caltex fueling site also opened in Inosluban, Lipa City, Batangas and is now ready to cater to its residents and tourists. Aside from being once known as the coffee center of the world, Lipa City is also dubbed as the “Little Rome of the Philippines” for being home to many Catholic churches.

In Visayas, another Caltex station rose in San Fernando, a coastal municipality of Cebu. The area is part of Metro Cebu, which encompasses the largest domestic port in the Philippines. The fuel station’s presence in the area provides a reliable source of power for the engines of shipping and logistics vehicles operating around Metro Cebu.

Down south, two Caltex stations opened along the National Highway in Bukidnon, ensuring an uninterrupted journey for motorists in the area. The stations are located in the landlocked areas of Barangay Aglayan, Malaybalay City and Barangay Kisolon, Sumilao. Bukidnon is regarded as the “Food Basket of Mindanao” as it is a major producer of rice, corn, and sugarcane.

All Caltex stations carry the premium Euro 4 compliant fuel Caltex with Techron, which guarantees maximized vehicle performance, enhanced engine protection, and lower emissions. Aside from providing clean and quality fuels, Caltex also maintains strict safety protocols and offer contactless payment methods for safer travels.

“To match the Filipinos’ increasing demand for better fuel, while catering to key industries that are gradually reopening, we seek to sustain the upward trend of our retail network growth this year and onwards. We are constantly expanding our brick-and-mortar network to power a worthwhile journey for our customers wherever they are,” said CPI Country Chairman and General Manager Billy Liu.

The opening of more Caltex stations will help the local fuel industry meet the increasing demand stiffened by the country’s improving economy. According to the Asian Development Outlook 2020 Update, the Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product is forecast to grow by 6.5% in 2021.

Caltex’s launch of new service stations and quality fuel products, partnerships, and latest promotions allow it to kick-start 2021 stronger and more equipped to serve the country’s fuel needs.

He succeeded Louie Zhang, who recently retired after 31 years of service in the company.

Underpinned by his 13 years of experience in the petroleum industry, Liu now chairs CPI’s downstream business effective October 1, 2020. He manages the marketing of transportation fuels, finished lubricants, and coolants for commercial and retail sales under International Fuels and Lubricants segment of the Chevron business in the Philippines.

“I am truly delighted to be at the helm of Chevron’s business in the country. The Philippines is a vital market for Chevron’s downstream operations and an integral component of its Asia-Pacific presence. We will continue to drive our long-lived mission of supplying fuels and lubricants to meet the nation’s fuel and economic demands while upholding our social responsibilities. On top of this, we will also cultivate and support our local partners to grow Chevron’s retail and commercial footprint,” Liu said.

With a total of 639 Caltex service stations at present, Liu is optimistic to assume the lead role in CPI as the year nears its close. “I am honored to work alongside my new set of team and our partners in pursuit of our common mission and we are excited to continue transforming the industry with our game-changing growth plans. This year, Caltex has so far opened 21 retail sites, a figure that is still expected to increase before 2020 ends. Our aviation business has also contributed impressive performance as we continue to provide jet fuel for international airlines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport,” he added.

Even during the pandemic and lockdown, CPI continues to open Caltex stations in various parts of the country. Caltex was also quick to resume its retail operations in areas hard hit by the recent floodings from successive typhoons. Both Caltex fuels and lubes business have also recently launched promotions and new products for motorists such as the Fuel for Fuel promo and Delo 400 SLK, respectively. Chevron in the Philippines also recently made a P1 million donation to the Philippine Red Cross to help in its relief efforts in the aftermath of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

Prior to his new post, Liu held various positions focusing on value chain optimization, change management, and business development and sales in the United States. Earlier this year, he served as the leading performance champion for Chevron North America, where he helped bolster the company’s positioning in the market. Liu also covered Asia Pacific Marketing as a Project Manager based in Singapore during his early career in Chevron. He led several notable projects in the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Liu earned his bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science from Northwestern University, Illinois. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management.

Liu’s appointment reaffirms Chevron’s commitment to providing top-notch fuel products and value-added services for Filipinos. With the company’s dynamic business portfolio, Chevron remains one of the leading players in the country’s oil industry to this day.
