Globe’s efforts to provide a better mobile experience to its customers have made it possible to have Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) service available to postpaid customers in 94 percent of all towns in the country.

The telco says its network rollout along with modernization and site expansions have made it possible for customers to have another way of making calls to connect with their loved ones, relatives, and attend to work-from-home and online learning related concerns.

“We now have 30% of our postpaid customers actively on VoLTE. And we are seeing a consistent monthly growth rate of around 8% in terms of customer adoption. We are optimistic that more customers will latch on to this new service in the coming months because it provides a great customer experience for them and once again gives them the power to choose what works best for them,” said Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, Globe Chief Commercial Officer.

VoLTE is the standard high-speed wireless communication for mobile phones using 4G LTE instead of the traditional voice networks being used by 2G and 3G.

Compared to the old voice services of 2G and 3G networks, VoLTE has many advantages. It has three times more voice capacity than 3G and up to six times more compared to 2G, allowing the network to accommodate more customers placing calls at the same time, enabling faster call set-up, providing clearer voice quality, and lower instances of dropped calls.

VoLTE also allows users to simultaneously connect to the internet while on a call and this provides an uninterrupted mobile browsing experience especially with online gaming and video streaming.

An added complement to VoLTE is Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) or WiFi Calling, which helps address indoor mobile coverage problems such as voice calls affected by the distance between the mobile phone and the nearest network tower, building walls that block wireless signals, and poor signal inside a home or building. Depending on the capacity and signal strength of their WiFi service and a VoWiFi-capable mobile phone, VoWiFi can resolve these concerns because customers can use their existing WiFi connection to make phone calls.

VoLTE and VoWiFi calls work just like regular calls and are charged like regular calls (unli VoLTE and VoWiFi calls apply if registered to a Globe unli call promo). VoWiFi also work on any Wifi network.

Customers’ reactions to VoLTE and VoWiFi remain positive and encouraging.  Some customers said VoWiFi is such “a lifesaver” and “very useful in making calls even if they are inside their homes in their respective subdivisions.”

In areas where VoLTE is already available, Globe customers can check if their mobile phone is VoLTE-capable, read about new VoLTE-ready locations or find what they need to know about VoLTE through these Online FAQs.  Globe prepaid customers may also check the online FAQs for more information.

Cabreira added that provisions are underway to cover the remaining six percent of areas in the country that are not covered by Globe’s VoLTE service.

Globe’s relentless efforts to improve the country’s state of connectivity has led to it being the most consistent mobile network for two consecutive quarters in 2021, as verified by Ookla®.

The telco remained the leader in nationwide mobile consistency, ahead of competition. The Consistency Score in Q1 2021 was 70.43 and Q2 2021 was 75.98.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 4 on the provision of quality education and UN SDG No. 9, highlighting the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
