The first Philippine-produced documentary on Ukraine, “Hope For The Dawn To Come,” has been selected to vie for Sinag Maynila Festival.

The documentary highlights the resilience of Ukrainian schoolchildren amid war and serves as a powerful learning tool for Filipino children and global audiences alike, offering real-life lessons in resilience, the value of education, courage in adversity, and the enduring strength of hope amid conflict.

Completed after three and a half years, the film offers Filipino youth profound lessons in courage, perseverance, the enduring power of hope, the value of education, and a deepen love of country.

The 38-minute film chronicles the resilience of Ukrainian schoolchildren continuing their education amid missiles, air raids, and the constant threat of war. Filmed over several years across Ukraine, Poland, and the Czech Republic, it captures both the courage of its young subjects and the profound human toll of prolonged conflict.

Produced by THEPHILBIZNEWS, the documentary received a PG-13 rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) for its inspirational and educational value. It premiered inlate January to critical acclaim at a screening attended by diplomats, journalists, and civil society leaders.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Philippines Yuliia Fediv called it “a vital counterbalance to misinformation and war fatigue,” while international diplomats praised its ability to “give human faces to numbers and statistics.”

Being shortlisted at Sinag Maynila, a festival known for spotlighting thoughtful and impactful Filipino cinema, affirms the documentary’s artistic and cultural significance.

“This film was made not for profit, not for ratings, but out of a shared responsibility to bear witness — and to tell the truth with humanity. In a world shaped by conflict and disinformation, independent storytelling remains one of the most powerful bridges between nations and people,” said Monsi Alfonso Serrano, founder and publisher of THEPHILBIZNEWS, and the director of the film.

Even as shifting geopolitics and high-level diplomacy continue to dominate headlines, children — not strategy or statecraft — took center stage in Twin Lakes Hotel Tagaytay at the exclusive screening of “Hope for the Dawn to Come” Wednesday.

Marking the fourth year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine almost to the day, diplomats and guests reacted not with policy analysis, but with emotion, to the first Philippine-produced documentary on Ukraine by THEPHILBIZNEWS.

Brazil is stepping up efforts to expand trade with the Philippines by promoting higher-value, branded, and innovative food and beverage products, signaling a shift from traditional commodity exports toward more diversified agricultural engagement.

The push is highlighted by Brazil’s participation at WOFEX Drinks & Bakes 2026, taking place February 25 to 27 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, where the Brazil Pavilion (Booth No. 711) features five companies representing the diversity and technological advancement of modern Brazilian agribusiness.

PHOTO FROM THE EMBASSY OF BRAZIL IN MANILA

Brazil has long been a key agricultural partner of the Philippines, supplying essential commodities that support food security and supply stability. But Brazilian officials say the next phase of cooperation will focus on value-added exports aligned with evolving Filipino consumer preferences, including specialty coffee, craft and premium beverages, superfoods, and functional products.

“Brazil is already a trusted agricultural partner of the Philippines, contributing to supply stability and food security. Our presence at WOFEX demonstrates our commitment to deepen this partnership — expanding from commodities to value-added products that bring innovation, sustainability, and new business opportunities to the Philippine market,” said Brazilian Ambassador H.E. Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Among the exhibitors is Amazônia Tropical, which is introducing craft beverages from the Amazon region, including dry gin with jambu and Brazil nut gin, highlighting biodiversity-driven products. Attiva is presenting a broad beverage portfolio spanning mineral water, fruit juices, vodka, gin, cachaça, and liqueurs.

Sapiens Global is promoting value-added agro-industrial products such as fruit syrups, spirits, limoncello, cocoa brandy, coffee, and traditional yerba mate — underscoring Brazil’s capacity to transform raw agricultural materials into higher-margin consumer goods.

Coffee, one of Brazil’s most iconic exports, is highlighted by Vereno, which is showcasing roasted and ground coffee, extra strong blends, and ready-to-drink options aimed at the Philippines’ expanding café culture and specialty coffee segment.

The ambassador also emphasized that Brazilian agriculture combines scale with sustainability, supported by continued investments in research, technology, and traceability systems that increase productivity while preserving native vegetation.

Brazil’s participation at WOFEX reflects a broader strategy to strengthen commercial ties in Southeast Asia, particularly in premium and differentiated product categories.

The Embassy of Brazil in Manila, with support from Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, said the initiative forms part of efforts to internationalize Brazilian agribusiness and build long-term trade partnerships.

Importers, retailers, hospitality operators, and industry stakeholders are invited to visit the Brazil Pavilion (Booth No. 711) to explore potential collaborations and new distribution channels.

Through the initiative, Brazil is reaffirming its commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation with the Philippines — this time with a sharper focus on innovation, sustainability, and higher-value trade.

ASEAN foreign ministers on Monday commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), highlighting the pact’s role in sustaining regional peace, expanding diplomatic engagement, and strengthening ASEAN’s central role in the evolving Indo-Pacific architecture.

Signed on 24 February 1976 in Bali, Indonesia during the first ASEAN Summit, the TAC has evolved from an agreement among five founding member states into a widely embraced diplomatic instrument with 58 High Contracting Parties (HCPs) today.

In a joint statement issued in Manila, the ministers described the TAC as “a foundational code of conduct for interstate relations in the region and a cornerstone of regional peace and stability.”

From regional pact to global commitment

Originally signed by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, the treaty was created to promote “perpetual peace, everlasting amity and cooperation amongst the peoples in Southeast Asia, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.”

Over five decades, ASEAN officials said the treaty’s principles — including mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful settlement of disputes, renunciation of the threat or use of force, and effective cooperation — have provided a stable diplomatic framework in a region marked by diversity and complexity.

PHOTO FROM PCO

The ministers underscored that the treaty’s expansion from five signatories to 58 HCPs “underscores the Treaty’s enduring appeal through the past five decades, as a foundation for peaceful relations, mutual respect, and cooperation in the region and beyond.”

Foundation of ASEAN centrality

Beyond conflict prevention, the TAC has served as a pillar of ASEAN Centrality — reinforcing ASEAN-led platforms such as the East Asia Summit, ASEAN Regional Forum, and other dialogue mechanisms.

The ministers emphasized that the “aspirations and commitments embodied in the TAC serve as a key foundation of ASEAN Centrality and contribute to strengthening the ASEAN-led regional architecture, anchored in dialogue, consultation, and cooperation.”

They said these principles remain consistent with the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ), and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), positioning the TAC as both a regional and international normative instrument.

Deepening engagement with external partners

As geopolitical tensions rise globally, ASEAN foreign ministers called on all HCPs to reaffirm their commitments and fully comply with the treaty’s obligations.

They encouraged High Contracting Parties to build on the 50th anniversary momentum by deepening engagement with ASEAN in ways that are “ASEAN-driven, strategic, relevant, mutually beneficial, and responsive to current and emerging challenges.”

FROM ASEAN WEBSITE

The statement also pointed to ongoing efforts to develop clearer guidelines for how HCPs engage with ASEAN, ensuring alignment with ASEAN priorities, including the AOIP and the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

The ministers said the commemoration should serve as “a catalyst for deeper, more coherent, and more impactful ASEAN external engagements.”

Sustaining peace for the next 50 years

ASEAN also welcomed growing interest from countries seeking to accede to the TAC, underscoring that accession reflects a commitment to the treaty’s principles and continued engagement with ASEAN in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation.

To further strengthen the treaty’s relevance, ASEAN committed to enhancing research efforts on peace, reconciliation, conflict management, and conflict resolution, while upholding ASEAN Centrality across all ASEAN-led mechanisms.

The Philippines, as ASEAN Chair, will host the main commemorative activity for the 50th anniversary of the TAC on 24 July 2026 in Manila.

As ASEAN looks toward its Community Vision 2045, foreign ministers said the treaty’s enduring principles will continue guiding the region in building “a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centered ASEAN.”

The Philippines is stepping up its pitch for aerospace manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) investments at the Singapore Airshow 2026, backed by steady export growth and deeper integration into global supply chains.

Data from the Board of Investments show Philippine aerospace exports reached US$590.2 million in 2024, rising further to US$603.1 million in the first nine months of 2025. Major markets include the United States, Singapore, France, and China.

Building on this momentum, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre in Singapore (PTIC-Singapore), is promoting the country’s capabilities in aerospace manufacturing, parts production, sub-assemblies, and MRO services at the Philippine Pavilion of the Singapore Airshow 2026.

DTI Singapore facilitates introductions between the Bases Conversion and Development Authority and Redux, a Singaporean e-waste recycling and disposal company.
DTI is supporting the Philippine delegation by facilitating business matching and targeted introductions with potential foreign investors, buyers, and partners attending the Airshow. The DTI Singapore team, led by Commercial Counsellor Carla Grepo, is helping strengthen industry links, including collaboration between the Aerospace Industries Association of the Philippines, represented by Executive Director Wilfredo Estoque, and the Association of Aerospace Industries Singapore, led by Chew Hwee Yong.

DTI’s engagement focuses on positioning the Philippines as a competitive location for aerospace manufacturing and services while advancing direct commercial discussions between Philippine firms and international aerospace companies.

The country already hosts established aerospace manufacturers and global MRO players, supported by a growing local supplier base engaged in precision machining, components, and assemblies. These operations are anchored in investment-ready industrial zones and airport-linked developments promoted by other agencies represented in the Pavilion.

From right: DTI Singapore Commercial Counsellor Carla Grepo, First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) team, and representatives from multinational aerospace defense firm RTX, and the US Commercial Services.
The Philippine Pavilion brings together economic agencies, infrastructure operators, and private-sector firms engaged in aviation and aerospace. Delegates include representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Philippine Airlines, Clark International Airport Corporation, Aerospace Industries Association of the Philippines, LIPAD Corporation, Poro Point Management Corporation, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Berthaphil Inc., Skytrack Aviation Services, Skyway Airlines, and Wingbox Aviation.

Sponsored by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority and the Department of Tourism, the Pavilion was open to visitors from 3–6 February 2026.

Singapore, a regional headquarters hub for many global aviation and aerospace firms, provides a strategic platform for investment discussions, particularly for companies seeking Southeast Asian manufacturing and services partners.

Start your day with a slow, unhurried tour — on foot or on a bicycle — beginning from Intramuros. The morning air is cooler here, and the route invites discovery. You pass the stately Manila Central Post Office, cross the golden glow of Jones Bridge, and before long, you find yourself entering another world: Binondo, where centuries-old stories are etched into every street corner.

The journey itself is part of the charm. It’s now possible to walk, jog, or cycle this route with ease, turning what was once a crowded passage into a leisurely cultural experience.

As the city continues to reclaim its historic spaces, the path leading to the world’s first Chinatown has become an attraction of its own—equal parts history, exercise, and exploration.

Founded in 1594, Binondo is widely regarded as the oldest Chinatown in the world. But its significance goes far beyond its age. It is a living district, shaped by centuries of migration, and the blending of Filipino and Chinese cultures. From herbal pharmacies and gold shops to noodle houses and bakeries, it’s a place that rewards curiosity.

And now, it is getting a new chapter.

PHOTO FROM PCO FB

After the transformation of the Pasig River Esplanade, the spotlight has turned to Binondo. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally launched the second phase of the Chinatown Revitalization Project on February 13 at Hotel Lucky Chinatown, signaling renewed efforts to preserve its heritage while boosting cultural tourism and supporting local businesses.

“Binondo, founded in 1594, is described as the world’s oldest Chinatown. Beyond its age, what makes this place special is its long story of commerce, faith, and culture between Filipinos and the Chinese community,” the President said.

“This initiative is all about honoring shared histories and giving the district the much-needed attention and respect that it deserves,” he added.

PHOTO FROM PCO FB

The project builds on the success of Phase I, which restored and illuminated the iconic Jones Bridge, now a favorite backdrop for photos, bike rides, and evening strolls. Phase II aims to further transform Binondo into a lively cultural and economic hub, enhancing the experience for both locals and visitors.

“In this phase, we will further develop Ongpin Street into a cultural and economic hub, and enhance key historical landmarks with lighting and thematic presentations along Ongpin and Escolta Streets,” President Marcos said.

These upgrades are part of a broader effort tied to the administration’s Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli Program, which seeks to restore the Pasig River and revitalize nearby communities. The initiative includes reclaiming public spaces in Plaza Mexico, expanding pedestrian corridors toward the Arroceros Forest Park, modernizing river transport, and clearing waterways.

PHOTO FROM PCO FB

The result is a more connected and walkable city.

People can now make their way from Intramuros to Binondo more comfortably, taking in historic landmarks along the way. The improved Pasig River Ferry system also offers another scenic route into the district, adding to its accessibility.

But the heart of Binondo remains its everyday life.

On any given day, you can wander into a small eatery to try Chinese-Filipino favorites, browse shelves in traditional groceries, stop by old pharmacies selling herbal remedies, or take a photography walk through narrow alleys bursting with color and character. It’s a district that invites slow discovery — perfect for those who prefer to explore one bite, one street, one story at a time.

PHOTO FROM PCO FB

The President emphasized that the project is ultimately meant for the people who live, work, and pass through Binondo daily.

“Moreover, it is for every Filipino and for anyone who wishes to gain a better understanding of our culture and our history,” the President said.

The revitalization also highlights the strong collaboration among government, private sector partners, and the Filipino-Chinese community, whose shared efforts are helping preserve the district’s identity while preparing it for the future.

PHOTO FROM PCO FB

“I look forward to the results of this project as we breathe new life into this place, which becomes a better foundation for a better, more united Bagong Pilipinas,” the President said.

During the launch, the President and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos toured several newly lighted landmarks, including MacArthur Bridge, La Madre Filipina, the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar (Sta. Cruz Parish), Qui Shan Gate, and the Dragon Lights along Quintin Paredes Street.

These illuminated spaces hint at what Binondo is becoming: not just a historic district, but a destination to be experienced.

So slow down. Walk a little. Pedal a little. Taste something new. Look up at the old buildings. And let the world’s first Chinatown tell its story, one street at a time.

Chinese New Year remains one of the most vibrant and meaningful celebrations across Asia — from Malaysia and Singapore to Hong Kong — marking a time of renewal, fresh beginnings, and the promise of prosperity.

As we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, Feng Shui Master Joseph Chau shared his much-anticipated insights with guests at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, offering a glimpse of what lies ahead for businesses, the economy, and even personal well-being in the year to come.

Here are the key forecasts to watch:

SCREENGRABBED FROM MARCO POLO ORTIGAS MANILA FB PAGE

Booming sectors: Computer and internet-related ventures, petroleum, electronics, solar and tech products, and entertainment are poised for a prosperous year.

Heightened competition: Expect intense rivalry across tourism, hotels, trading, logistics, and transportation.

Growth zones: Construction and real estate show promising momentum.

Proceed with caution: Banking and financial markets are advised to manage investments carefully to avoid rising bad debts or falling into financial traps.

Health watch: Pay attention to heart, kidney, urinary, and bladder conditions, as well as risks related to stroke.

Nature’s warning signs: Possible global disruptions from typhoons, flooding, fires, volcanic activity, earthquakes, water hazards, and landslides.

Economic outlook: A steady, slow phase is expected, with broader recovery projected toward 2028.

Lucky signs this year: Rabbit, Goat, Tiger, and Dog.

Here’s Master Chau’s forecast for each sign:

Horse

1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014

Horses still have excellent opportunities to pursue their goals and succeed.

This year, emotional instability may lead Horses to mood swings and misunderstandings in relationships. Tensions may rise easily, so Horses are advised to remain patient and composed. Practice forgiveness and openness to avoid potential separation or emotional distance.

SCREENGRABBED FROM MARCO POLO ORTIGAS MANILA FB PAGE

The appearance of the auspicious Commander Star clears away much of the misfortune, indicating that Horses still have excellent opportunities to pursue their goals and succeed.

It’s a favorable year for investments or buying property. Yet, a warning: “Don’t be greedy.”

Goat

1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015

Planning carefully or staying grounded is crucial.

Goats will see new opportunities for career growth, promotions, and possible salary increases. This is a favorable time to start a new business, switch careers, or even pursue a joint venture.

With a lucky star shining in their sign, Goats will enjoy strong interpersonal connections and increased romance. This is a favorable time for single Goats to meet someone special. Those in relationships should nurture love with care and avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.

Monkey

1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016

It’s a year of more work and less reward, with no significant breakthroughs in business or career. Monkeys must stay alert, remain flexible, and be prepared for sudden changes or setbacks.

Travelling or working in a new environment may help shift their luck and restore momentum. However, the presence of the Lonely Star suggests poor interpersonal relations. So maintaining good relationships and a cooperative spirit is essential for progress.

Beware of jealous individuals, rumors, and gossip.

SCREENGRABBED FROM MARCO POLO ORTIGAS MANILA FB PAGE

Monkeys may also feel physically and emotionally drained. Get a healthy checkup early on and avoid overworking — prioritize rest and recovery. Road safety is critical, and Monkeys are advised not to attend funerals or wakes throughout the year.

Rooster

1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017

Roosters should adopt the strategy of “observe carefully and act accordingly.” Flexibility and adaptability will be key. If they can remain calm and adjust to unexpected changes, they may be able to turn setbacks into success.

Finances will be unstable and unpredictable this year — some months may be favorable, while others are challenging. Roosters are strongly advised not to rely on speculative investments, as this could lead to losses or risky situations.

This is a year of variety and warmth in relationships. However, the saying goes: “Needles never sharp on both ends.” It is important to ensure having enough rest and maintaining a proper diet and hygiene to avoid illness. Special attention: respiratory system and lungs.

Dog

1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

Dogs are in alliance with the Horse this year, which typically brings positive support. However, despite this alliance, their overall luck is mixed, with both lucky and unlucky stars in their life cycle. They must act within their limits — pushing too hard or rushing success may ruin progress.

It’s crucial to distinguish between trustworthy and deceitful people to avoid being scammed!

However, this is not a strong year for romance.

Dogs may struggle to connect with the opposite gender, and tensions or misunderstandings may arise. They must control their temper and avoid isolating themselves emotionally, which could lead to betrayal or emotional distance.

SCREENGRABBED FROM MARCO POLO ORTIGAS MANILA FB PAGE

Pig

1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019

Pigs will see a rise in business income and may earn more than in the previous year. Yet, speculative or high-risk financial ventures should be avoided. The saying applies: “Too much greed leads to poverty.”

This will be a romantic and emotionally rich year for Pigs. Singles may find meaningful companionship, while couples will enjoy shared values and emotional closeness. However, patience and understanding are needed for those in relationships.

Adequate rest, sleep, and self-care are essential. Pigs should also be cautious of accidents or unexpected mishaps. Avoid risky activities and take extra care during the lunar months of June, September, and October.

Rat

1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020

Mentally, Rats must prepare to face obstacles and potential betrayal. Patience, calmness, and a clear mind are key to avoiding further complications.

With two auspicious stars, work may proceed more smoothly, and Rats may find themselves gaining authority or real power to handle tasks successfully and advance in their careers.

It’s a financially unstable year for Rats. The presence of conflicting stars could lead to easy losses or wasteful spending. They should be extra careful with budgeting and avoid overspending. It’s important to plug any financial “leaks” early on to prevent a crisis. Expanding sources of income while minimizing unnecessary expenses is essential. Avoid sharp objects and make time to rest and relax to prevent exhaustion and mental burnout.

Ox

1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

Lucky stars will bring inspiration and creative ideas, especially in the workplace. This is a year of opportunity. If Oxen can seize the moment, they can achieve excellent results. However, it’s crucial to know when to advance and when to hold back. Avoid being overly greedy to maintain good fortune.

SCREENGRABBED FROM MARCO POLO ORTIGAS MANILA FB PAGE

Oxen will generally have stable and favorable finances this year, with steady income from multiple sources. Oxen will also be filled with romantic energy and passion this year. Single Oxen should remain alert to potential romantic opportunities, as love could blossom easily. This is a good year to consider marriage. Be mindful of diet to prevent digestive and stomach issues.

It is also advised to avoid attending funerals or wakes for the entire year.

Tiger

1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

Tigers can overcome challenges and see their efforts pay off by the end of the year. This is a great opportunity to pursue ambitions and rise in status. Tigers will be efficient and capable in their work, with progress flowing smoothly. The Promotion Star indicates chances for career advancement, recognition, or even fame.

They must maintain humility, foster good relationships, and avoid unnecessary conflicts, rumors, or attracting envy from others. Expect increased income — “more work, more gain.”

Tigers are likely to experience better romantic luck. Those in relationships should consider settling down or getting married this year. Single Tigers may meet someone special.

Also, avoid greasy or overly fried foods to lower the risk of high blood pressure, cholesterol, or heart problems

In 2026, Rabbits are the Romance Star for the Horse — making it a harmonious and lucky year. Things will flow smoothly, and Rabbits can expect a more cheerful atmosphere. It’s important to stay courageous, explore new opportunities, and keep pushing forward. This is a great time to set new goals and discover fresh directions in life.

Money luck is stronger than last year. With career progress looking favorable, Rabbits will find plenty of opportunities for advancement. To stay balanced, they should exercise regularly and manage stress. Avoid becoming overly emotional to maintain a peaceful mindset.

Rabbits can expect a joyful and loving year. Romance will spark easily, especially for singles, with a strong possibility that love may blossom into something lasting. Married Rabbits will enjoy a harmonious family life.

Dragon

1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024

The Dragons’ luck sees a major improvement this year.

Progress at work will be steady, and even if obstacles arise, they can be resolved with relative ease. Money luck is also abundant this year, especially in business and career-related income. However, it may still be difficult to save or accumulate wealth, so budgeting is essential. Dragons must be calm, patient, and forgiving — especially in family life.

Be particularly cautious around water hazards, and avoid risky activities like diving or cruise travel. It’s also important to be alert to road safety, sharp objects, and vehicle accidents. Regular soft exercise and stress management will help health luck.

Snake

1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025

This will be a challenging year. The saying “bitter first, sweet later” applies perfectly.

Snakes must act cautiously, stay calm, and avoid impulsive decisions. The presence of the Wealth Star brings prosperity, but Snakes must be especially careful when signing contracts to avoid falling into traps (or potential legal trouble). All agreements should be clearly written and reviewed in detail. Overspending should be avoided, and it’s wise to set aside money for unexpected expenses.

Due to the presence of the Sickness Star, health is a concern. Snakes should pay close attention to diet and food hygiene. Relaxation and stress relief are essential. High blood pressure, heart conditions, and eye issues should be monitored closely. Health risks may be higher in the lunar months of January, April, July, and October.
